Date with Daughter Ideas

Whole family was supposed to go see Brave tomorrow. Now hubby is going fishing and son is going to Hawaiian Falls with a friend. I told dd we would do something fun together. She wants to get a mani/pedi, ugh. I just did my nails 2 days ago, at home, but still... So I really don't want to do that. I do want to do something fun, because we start select soccer stuff for her brother on Sunday and will be dragging her to events for the next several weekends.

Ideas??? Not too expensive, but more than just movie or lunch and shopping (which I already suggested and she shot down, shocker, she loves to shop). She's 8 1/2, if that helps.

ETA: she doesn't want to see the movie without her dad and brother, the 3 of them compete in archery tournaments together and love that the main character is an archer so they want to see it together. If she really wants the mani pedi we'll do it, I'm just looking for other ideas that might sway her, lol.

Really? She also loves chocolate, but when I gave her some carrot cake she thought it was way Better than chocolate. I'm looking for ideas, things she hasn't thought of or done, that might be fun. No need to try to guilt me about it.
Thanks for the pottery painting idea, that might be a winner!

What can I do next?

Thank you for all the wonderful ideas! She chose to get her nails and hair done at GirlyGirl salon and have lunch after, lots of fun!

If you think the following weekends will be a big drag to her, let her choose. If she wants a mani/ padi you should go for her. Make it a special day for her and let her do what she pleases. Especially if her brother will be having many weekends devoted to him. Or you could go buy nail polish and do it at home.
HAVE FUN!!

Hi mama-

Just googled this:
http://www.keepitinkeller.com/eat/tea-rooms

It is a site for a local tea place...finger sandwiches etc

Maybe wear 'hats and gloves' followed by some antique shopping...along the line of having come from an old fashioned tea?

Best luck!

Why not just take her to get a mani/pedi, and you could get a facial instead.

I would go to the movie, have lunch and whatever else. If dad and son still want to see the movie they can go and do it another time.

call your local Central Market. Sometimes they have cooking classes for kids and that is usually a fun thing to do to. Have fun together!

Take her to a hair salon... and get hair tinsel or hair feathers in her hair for her.
If there is a salon there that does it.
That was real popular with my daughter and all the girls at that age. And most all salons here.
It doesn't cost much.
My daughter is 9.

Or just take her and let HER get a mani/pedi.
With a cute design/flower on it.

Roller Skating?
I loved that when I was her age...I am pretty sure there are still Roller Rinks, right?

Bowling?
Always gives my family a good laugh!

~Cant wait till my daughter is old enough to have fun at the Health food stores with me and try on and buy all the cool organic stuff (chapstick, perfume, lotions, shampoo & conditioner, etc)...I love that!

1.Maybe go see a different movie?
2.Just go shopping for awhile and let her indulge on something special.
3.Get your nails done "again"... if that's what's important to her, it sounds easy enough.
4.Go to a pet store and look at the puppies and kittens for awhile, have some lunch with an overly indulgent dessert?
5.Go to some second hand stores and show her how to put a cute outfit together for cheap.
OR, tell her to make a list of things she would like to do, and then decide if any of those are doable.

My daughter (12 at the time) got a feather extension in her hair while we were in Hawaii last year, but I think you can get them pretty much anywhere. She loved it, it was cheap, like $20, and it lasted for a few months.
Or you could do the paint your own pottery thing.
My older daughter and I LOVE to go flea/antique/thrift shopping together. It's one of the only things we have in common, it's like a treasure hunt for us!
If you like cooking/baking maybe you could just stay at home and play with recipes in the kitchen. Or, if you're into home improvement, start a little makeover on your daughter's bedroom. Quality time doesn't always need to be outside the home :)
ETA: roller skating!!! That was by FAR my favorite thing to do as a girl. Do you have a rink near by?

I am not into mani pedis either. It is boring. I go and get them done since my back is so bad.. but I dread it.
