Hi Ladies!! I have had a migraine for 3 days now and I am 24 wks pregnant. My doc prescribed 100 mg of darvacet and when I went to get my prescription, my friend who is a pharmacy tech (who is also prego) said she would not dare take it. That scares me but I trust my OB GYN with my life. I would let him do brain surgery on me if he had too. I think he hung the moon so someone please tell me if I am crazy for worrying or if I should not take it!

What can I do next?

If you trust your doctor continue to do so. Remember that anyone can post anything on the internet and it doesn't have to be credible. You are past the critical development points and you will not be taking several pills a day to be addicted. Darvocet has very little addictive properties, compared to many other medications.

You are not suppose to take anything like that while you are pregnant, but if your Doctor perscribed them it must have been a good reason.I can tell you I have three kids and with all of them I had really bad migranes too,and the only thing my Doctor told me to take was Extra Strength Tylenol.I know you probably know that they didn't work for me at all so basicly I kind of suffered really more than you know.It got to where days I couldn't get out the bed to take care of my kids one of them was taking care of me.He was so great for that but one thing I was able to do was make sure they ate,but after that I got back into my bed and tried to sleep it off.I hope you get better during your pregnancy and that the headaches do be as bad as mines was.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I am a mother to 2 kids and coincidentally, am also a Pharmacy technician and I agree with your friend, I will personally not take Darvocet during a pregnancy.

I searched drug.com for you just give you something on paper, this is an excerpt and you can look it up at: http://www.drugs.com/cdi/darvocet-n-100.html

it reads "PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: Darvocet-N 100 may cause harm to the fetus. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Darvocet-N 100 while you are pregnant. Darvocet-N 100 is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use Darvocet-N 100 , check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby."

Oh I remember those days and I will praying for you that they end soon. I had horrible migraines with both my children and they lasted for weeks. With the first I was given darvacet, but didn't want to take it so I just fought through the pain. I was staying at home and had no other children so I could sleep it off if I had to. With second child they lasted forever and got worse and worse. I went to my doctor and she gave me Phenagren (sp?) and Darvacet. I took the Phenagren when the migraine was not as bad, but if I didn't take it in time to control the pain I had to take a Darvacet. I think she gave me 15 pills and I probably took half of them. She told me it was very safe to take, but only take them when necessary. The pain was just more than I could handle and I had a one year old to take care of so I need some relief. I just suggest that you take them only when the pain is more that you can take. Ask about the Phenegren (sp?) it might help you. My best friend was also pregnant at the same time and she had the problem took Darvacet and everything was fine. If you need it take it don't let the pain get so sever you cannot function.

I took it while nursing - prescribed by an OB - and my son is fine. That said, while I was pregnant, I used a chiropractor and vapor rub on my forehead and temples for migraines. Excedrin Migraine was pretty good, too - but it does have some Aspirin in it, which you're not supposed to take past some point - I would talk to the OB about it, and your concerns.

Darvocet is NOT a good thing to take at any time during pregnancy. I do foster care for drug babies. The 2 I have adopted were born addicted to darvocet. It was prescribed by the ob-gyn. Not sure what is wrong with these drs but taking this is NOT smart. Mine have multiple delays b/c of a small amount of darvocet. I would consider changing drs. You can read on this if you google it.
