Dark Blue BM??

My son is on Goodstart formula (he is 5 month old today!) and his BM has a really dark blue "denim" color to it. The daycare provider has never seen this and the pediatrician has never heard of it but says that as long as it's not black, white or red there is nothing to worry about... he suggested that I bring a dirty diaper to his next appointment just to see for himself but is not concerned.
Has anyone experienced a diaper that color before?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I guess I didn't make it clear that it has been like this pretty much since he has started the goodstart formula at around 2 months of age... it has been dark blue for 3 months and we are just starting the rice cereal now.
I am wondering what the color will be like when we do give him bananas though ;)

He may be 'kicking out' some kind of nutrient that he doesn't need more of in his body. it just takes on the color blue.

thats funny, my dd is 4 months old and had the exact same poopie a week ago. it was dark blue just like denim, it even looked textured like fabric :-) we thought she ate the blanket! it did happen right after she ate banana's. has your baby had banana's?

my son's was a flourescent green for the first year of his life. When he got older it got more normal. My pediatrician told me that some digestive tracks mature at different rates than other and that his was producing a different kind of pigment that other peoples. It went away

My daughter had a bright teal diaper when she was on Good Start. I would say it's "normal" even though it seems very odd!!

Hope that helps!! J.

Although my children were not on Goodstart, my young cousin was when she was that age. She had bowel movements that were a greenish color when she was on it. They were also a bit looser than babies on other formulas. I think it has something to do with the proteins already being broken down but I'm not sure.

I would take the diaper to the doctor next time. But I wouldn't worry about it.

Good luck.

Don't think this will be much help - the only blue bm's we've had is after having bluberries. I'm guessing your 5 month old isn't eating many blueberries. When mine were sick we'd get green.

Hi L.,

I have a 6 month old boy who is on Good Start also!! I would not be too concerned about the color of his BM. I breastfed my son for the first 8 weeks and during that time his bm's were yellow which is normal but after 4 weeks of being off of breastmilk and strickly on good start, he would occasionally have yellow and green seedy bm. Which I thought was strange, I also have an 11 year old and she was breastfed too and I don't remember her bm's staying yellow after I stopped with her. Anyway, sorry for all the details.....I would not be too corcerned about the color especially if it didn't hurt him when he passed it. Hope this helps!! PS. My son has done very well with the Good Start, I love it!! D.
