Have any of you heard about the preservative called Thimerosal which has high levels of mercury in it. This is in almost all vaccines and it has been linked to autism in children. I have recently switched doctors because my dayghters old doctor said she didn't think they even made a Thimerosal free vaccine. I have a friend who just had a baby a couple of weeks ago and their doctor said that no self respecting doctor would ever administer a vaccine with Thimerosal in it. This will now be my daughters doctor. I hope you will all do some research on Thimerosal. You may want to make some changes also.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your comments. I learned that Thimerosal does not cause autism but it definatly isn't safe. My previous doctor told me that some of her vaccines had high levels of Thimerosal in them. I think she must get them from an out of state source so I still think that you should check with your doctors about the levels of Thimerosal in their vaccines. I also think that you should not give your children any vaccine with Thimerosal in it. After all Mercury is not good for our children. Thank you so much ladies.

D.,

There are thimerosol free vaccines. Studies have shown that it does not cause autism. But I would be more concerned with what it could do to the immune system. Chronic Fatigue syrdrome may be due to vaccinations, and auto-immune disorders as well.

I am looking for a ped, myself (due in Jan). Looking for a Dr. who doesn't over vaccinate and uses thimerosol free vaccines.

BTW, this is a big issue in pets too. Especially cats, there are thimerosol free vaccines for cats, and TF vaccines for dogs.

my opinions and insight on autism and mercury

i have a child with autism - david showed signs from birth. in everything that i have read (and i have done a lot of reading looking for a cause) - it's a hit and miss as to whether there is any real damage done by mercury in causing autism. autism is a nuerological disorder that is there from birth. while i agree with not taking any chances by not using the vaccines with the mercury perservative - i do not agree with the "research" showing a link to autism.

we see a rise in diagnosis primarily because doctors and teachers are being trained better to properly understand the signs and symptoms earilier so we can get an earlier diagnosis which allows for earlier intervention for our children.

Please got to www.thinktwice.org. It's a comprehensive website on vaccines. Regardless of whether thimerosal causes autism or not, the levels that were allowed are alarmingly toxic which is why American manufacturers no longer add it. However, some vaccines come from foreign manufacturers or the vaccine your child is getting could be from pre-removal of thimerasol. In other words, whatever was already in the market was not recalled. You have to ask for very specific info about the vaccine your child is getting to determine whether it contains thimerosal including the name of the manufacturer, the plant, the date it was produced, etc. Then you have to research the practices of the manufacturer. Do not rely on your doctor to know if the vaccine they administer to your child has thimerosal. Based on my own research, mercury in vaccines is only one cause for concern. I don't vaccinate my child at all. Yes, that's an option but I reccomend you do lots of reading including the CDC and the AMA and the American Pediatrics Association(?) in addition to ThinkTwice.org so you are confident in your own mind about the decision you make. MANY PEOPLE will try to fight you if you choose not to vaccinate so it pays to know your stuff.

Totally Agree! Thimerosal very dangerous and has been linked to Autism. We delayed all vac. till our little one was over 6 months old. Tough finding a doctor who will work with you, but its worth it. Great Doctor in Melbourne FL (Dr. Bradstreet I think) who had a son with Autism (there are different "kinds") and he has helped his son make dramatic improvements. He agrees that Thimerosal is dangerous which is why they have taken it out of most vac. Although I understand it may be present in small doses in some still. Good luck with it!

My research found that the FDA has "removed Thimerosal from or reduced to trace amounts in all vaccines routinely recommended for children 6 years of age and younger, with the exception of inactivated influenza vaccine"
