Hey Mom,
Just got back from there today! It was a zoo! Too many people for a child to enjoy it. We grizwalded it (went very fast) and it is way too expensive to have to go too fast. It does have some interesting parts but I think I could spend that money on something he would like better.
The museam does have some interesting light/art displays that you could see for about $10, I think, without the King Tut exhibit. Hope this helps!

We went last year when it was in London, our oldest has just turned 5 and he LOVED it! I went sort of fast through it b/c I had our then 2 yr old with me, he was not so interested and walking since they didn't allow the stroller in the exhibit. We waited a good 1/2 hour for my husband and 5 yr to finish. Now he wants to go to Egypt to the see pyramids!

I would take your 9 yr old, pick a time that won't be so crazy so you have more time to enjoy it.

I went on a Wednesday afternoon and there were several school groups there on field trips. They all appeared interested, and I only heard one child complain (You know what I learned at King Tut? I learned I don't like it - he was cute and funny). I think a 9 year old would find it fairly interesting.

I took my 7 year old daughter and her friend. They did like it but didn't pay close attention to everything like I wanted too. Even with that being said, I am glad I took them since this is an exhibit that will not tour again in the US.

Good Luck

I have an 8 year old and a 5 year old that I homeschool and we went with another family with the same aged kids. The King Tut exhibit is fabulous and even though the kids did not ooh and ahhh, I do believe it is something they'll remember seeing for the rest of their lives. How often do you get to see such an exhibit? We took the DART train out there from Richland Hills and had lunch out so they total day was just a blast. They do have a family pack with 4 tickets for $56 if you go during the week and $76 for the weekend. When you go on the website, click on the "special offers" part for that offer. It has 2 adult tickets and 2 youth tickets. Hope that helps! I definitely think that all kids at this age should go!

If you haven't bought tickets yet, I'd subscribe as a member.... I think we did the $125 level. You do get 2 free tickets for Tut and discounted tickets for the rest of the family. AND you can go on special members only nights, which we did and it wasn't crowded at all.

But they nights may be booked up already since it's coming to a close soon. However it's worth checking into because it was such a pleasure not going with the crowd and you get to go the musuem for the rest of the year as many times as you want!

From what I have heard, it would be boring for some 9 yr olds and good for certain kids. My son who is 7 loves to read, and he would love it. My daughter on the other hand is a different type of child. (she is only 3 1/2) She too loves books etc...I would suspect that she would not be interested in the museum though.
I would take your child anyway, as it is the last time it will be touring, so he will likely never get to see it again in his life.
No cameras are allowed, and a potty break before entering is a must...you cannot return if you leave for the potty.

I took my nephews on Monday who are 7 and 9. They really love mummies and the topic of ancient Egypt anyway so they REALLY liked this. The 7-year-old had to have things explained to him, but the 9-year-old did a great job of looking at things and reading on his own. Probably would splurge and get the audio tour for the kiddos if I had to do it over again. Hope this helps!

Hi L.,

My family and I just went to the King Tut exhibit yesterday. My son is 11, and though there was a bit of complaining about the wait/walking, he seemed to be pretty interested.

My suggestion would be to wait until the Spring Break rush is over and by all means, get your tickets early. We went to the museum thinking that we'd just walk right up, purchase tickets and tour. Not the case at all. Tickets were sold out until the 7:30 pm show. We arrived there at 3:30 UGGGH!

It's definitely worth seeing.

Hope this helps.

When you go, get the audio tour for your child!

We took my older kids (8 and 5)last weekend. They both enjoyed it, although my 5 year old son enjoyed it more than his older sister - maybe a boy thing?! The audio tour really helped keep up their interest. You go at your own pace and key in the number of the item you are ready to hear about. They liked doing that themselves. Have fun!

We went last week with our sons (11 and 7) and they both loved it! I would recommend it. Just be prepared for big crowds of people and having to end the tour in the gift shop.

We joined the museum and got a discount on attending the King Tut exhibition.

We went on a Wed or Thurs late afternoon. NO LINES! We zipped through and spent however much time we wanted to.

My husband and I always like to read everything, but can't always do that - the kids read faster and are less fascinated, but still were interested.

Like others said - some kids will be fascinated, some interested, some bored! Getting a membership makes it less expensive, plus you can go to the museum often and not be tempted to overstay on any one visit and cause the kids to get bored.

Good luck!

We went a couple of months ago with our 14 and 9 year old daughters. My 9 year old really liked it. So did my 14 year old, but she has always had a fascination with the whole mummy thing. And yet my 9 year old hasn't had any particular facination with the stuff but still she thought it was cool.

We didn't have too much of a crowd but probably because we went midway through the exhibit timeframe.

We took our 8 year old 3rd grader and 5 year old and they both loved it! My 3rd grader noticed that there were a lot of things made with the Egyptian eternity sign. We had a blast. However.... don't expect to see Tut's death mask that they show on the commercial. It no longer travels outside of Egypt. And don't expect to see Tut's sarcophigus.(sp??) They do have another death mask and sarcophigus of other Tut family members. They don't have a lot of Tut's things there. They do have a lot of his family's things. We researched before we went so that they'd know kinda what they would see. It's expensive true, but how many times do you have the opportunity to see things like this???

I would not go to the King Tut exhibit because it does not have the real King Tut there...very misleading ads...the real King Tut couldnt be moved from Egypt becausre of its frailty. The best place to take a boy his age is the Dallas World Aquarium near downtown Dallas. Its awesome and has a rainforest that you walk thru and extremely educational. Adults are $16.95 and not sure how much childs tix are but are less. He will lOVE IT!!!!! They even have penguins that are so close you can almost touch them and alligators too!

We just took our 6 and 8 year old daughters on Wednesday and they both enjoyed it. We splurged and got the audio tour and I think that really helped because it told more than what was posted by the artifacts. Plus it helped because my 6 year old isn't a strong reader yet, so she would have just been staring at all the artifacts or having me read all of them to her. She was able to look at some and then listen to the ones with info. Plus if you go when the regular part of the museum is open, you can tour that part for free. We did King Tut at 10, ate lunch, and then did the rest of the museum. They really enjoyed it and never said they were bored or asked when we were leaving.

Hi L.- I took my daughter to the exhibit today. She is 5 and enjoyed it. Before we went to the exhibit, I went to the library and we read and talked about King Tut and some basic egyptian education points such as what canopic jars were used for (she thought that was gross but still enjoyed seeing them), how everything was made of gold, the Nile river, how King Tut was actually a king and ruled over upper and lower Egypt. When we got there, I purchased the audio system and she enjoyed punching in the numbers and listening to what the speaker said. She even got to the point where she was teaching me based on what she was hearing. Some of the displays don't have audio so I read the captions and explained them to her in a manner that she would understand. I hope you have a great time. We did.
