I do believe it should be no more than 24 oz. a day. I remember when my oldest daughter was a toddler she would not eat right so I questioned her doctor. He said she was recieving to much milk that she should not have more than 24 oz, a day!!I hope this helps!!

Hi, I also have a 16 month old. He was born early dec. I actually started introducing him to milk at 11 months. He was completely off the bottle before he turned 13 months. I read somewhere, sorry I can't remember where, that they should be getting 24 oz. of milk a day. So that's about 3 cups a day. I give him a sippy cup first thing in the morning, one at lunch and another right before bed. The one before bed, I want to move to an earlier time so I can start potty-training him. A little early, yes. But I am expecting another by Thanksgiving. What I did with my son, was take away his bottle during the day and replaced it with a sippy cup. I would still give him his bottle at night. A month later I took it away completely. I didn't have any problems afterwards. I hope this information has helped you and that the rest goes smoothly! :)

I couldn't find anything on Dr. Sears website of a required amount of milk. But, it is different than formula in the fact that it should not be the nutritional staple. Your best bet is to serve a cup of milk with each meal, then water in between meals. Milk is a great source of nutrition and calories, but your baby should be relying on good food for nutrition now, instead of formula. Also, count "milk" consumption if you make oatmeal for him with milk, serve cheese and yogurt. Good luck!

Babies over a year don't HAVE to have milk. Cow's milk was orignally intended for baby cows, etc... That said, my lactose intolerant son loves vanilla SILK. It has the protein, calcium, etc.. and I usually give him a cup with breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A half gallon lasts him a week or so. Water is in his cup the rest of the time. He's in the 90th percentile for height, the 70th for weight, and the 95th for head circumference. He's now 4.
