I came home tonight to find my husband through-the-roof frustrated with our 9-year-old daughter. Apparently she had given my husband a big dose of teenaged style attitude - something that we have never seen before. My husband has always said that he was going to have a hard time dealing with the teenaged years and it looks like it may be popping up sooner than expected. And boy, was he right, he has no clue how to handle this. Does anyone have any books, suggestions..anything? Thxs.

Remember when your child went through whining?
Treat sass talk and prissy talk the same way.

"I do not understand you when you use that tone of voice."

"I need to you to ask in a better tone this time."

" My answer to you any time you use that tone will be NO."

"You need to go to your room and look for your regular voice."

"I was not asking you a question, I was telling you what you need to go and do."

Hang in there. this can become a bad habit, if you do not nip it in the bud..

Just let her know, by demonstration if need be, that your attitude is bigger and you've had it longer.

She is 9 and not a teen yet...believe me you will know the difference when THAT time comes. You both have to get on the same page. Go out to dinner together alone and discuss how your going to handle her. If she talks back, this is the consequence: Early bed time , no TV, no computer, no phone for a full day including the day it happens. Do not go back on your word ever. She will own you if you do. Pick one or two of these and stick to it. Also, if she is out of hand. What does she value the most. Take it away with grounding and no electronics. I loved my daughter so much I took her door off and cleared her room. She had a bed and a closet. The one thing did work really well for me if mine did not do what they were told. I would say the next really fun thing you want to do, we are NOT doing it because of your attitude. So when you discuss this with your husband. Let your little princess know the rules. Print them out for her, She will test your at first, they all do. Just say what you mean and mean what you say.
