Cycle Question - Does This Mean Menopause Is near (TMI Warning)?

Hi Mamas!

I'm 41 years old. I just started my cycle again 16 DAYS AFTER THE LAST ONE (counting Day 1 as the first day of my last cycle prior to my current one). I have never had this happen before. My cycles have been between 21-24 days since I was in high school.

The current cycle seems a tiny bit lighter but mostly like all my other ones.

No chance of pregnancy this cycle.

Could this mean I'm getting close to menopause, or perimenopause? Have you guys ever had this happen? My hormones feel all over the place (moody). I have lost some weight - could that be related?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

What can I do next?

You might be starting to go through the change. Talk with you mom if you can or aunts to see how they experienced it, usually a good indicator on what to expect. My aunt just skipped her 1st period at 50 but her mom had a hysterectomy before 30 so she doesnt have much to go one. My mom had wacky periods for years then nothing for 3 then spotting again for another year not nothing at 54. Ob exam can also tell you where you're at.

I agree with the PP who suggested you ask your mom, aunts, etc if you can when they started experiencing the "menopause mambo"!
I am 47 and still have a monthly period but a few years back, I had a little wackiness with a cycle every 2 weeks, then it stopped.
If you are organized (unlike me) try to write it all on a small calendar so you can look for patterns, then you can discuss it at your next yearly.

Your period can be thrown off for a number of reasons, But if you were getting close to menopause or perimenopause you would be experiencing some irritability, extreme fatigue, dry itchy skin or breakouts, lumpy breasts, overwhelming emotions for no reason- crying etc..

I am 32 and started to experience ALL of these and I was recommended to take Fermented Cod liver oil WITH butter oil. This combination helps regulate hormones.

I have been on it for 45 days and have already noticed my energy back, less fatigue, less irritability, and my once VERY heavy periods have been cut in half! I would recommend you try this natural approach. Good luck!!

It could be menapause, but I would get your thyroid checked. If the thyroid gland is off, it can cause bleeding in between cycles

I would get a check up with a good ob gyn, including a thyroid work up. If everything's normal and they say it's menopause, I would look into acupuncture. HTH!

I started doing that sort of thing in my early 40's and my doctor said it could be early stages of menopause. I had an endometrial ablasion.

My sister started that in late forties. mine is about every three weeks, used to be four. Do you have an older sister to ask? Never heard of losing weight during Peri or Menopause so maybe you should check with Dr

Hi you can indeed start menopause this early. I have. It runs in my family though, check with other members if you can. I even get my period for a month straight. Horrible. Nothing is wrong. You go through the motions with the obgyn get the tests and all comes back normal. But it could just be stress, Stress will do some crazy things to you as well. I wouldnt worry about it but you might want to atleast go in and get your pap and the biopsy (really not a big deal) so you can not worry about it because you know the more you worry the worse it will get. I'm the biggest chicken in the world when it comes to doctors but its just something you got to do :]
