So What Happened?

I wanted to let everyone know that it was a piece of cake. I was so nervous going in but the Dr. put me at ease right away. They did it threw my cervix and I really didn't feel anything, honestly the worst part was when they put the speculum in LOL. It was just having a pap smear done. It took only about 25 minutes. Quick and easy and painless and I feel great, just have to lay low till tomorrow.

I too the CVS and i had no problems and I did not feel a thing. Very easy (versus the alternative which i did for my first since I had been over 35).

I was 35 when I had my first son and found the CVS to be completely utterly pointless. It is wildly inaccurate and if something does come up, you will have an amnio anyway. It was not painful physically, but psychologically, it was the worst few weeks of my life, having something potentially really dreadful show up as a possibility after the CVS and having to wait until the amnio to confirm. My son just turned 8 and is perfectly fine.

I think that if you do have concerns about screening the risks of the amnio are quite low, the procedure in my experience was really not a big deal (especially in comparison to my imagined vision of a giant cartoon needle going through my belly and into the next floor:)) and it gives a much more accurate picture of anything that might be going on.

And being nervous in this uncharted territory is part of the journey into the great unknown and out of our control place called parenthood:) Deep breath!

Dr williams did mine about 5 months ago. I did not feel any pain at all. Honestly felt like a pap smear. I did experience a good amount of bleeding for about 10 days after until I finally passed a clot and then it all stopped. That was a little freaky and worrisome. However, I probably didn't rest as much as I should have but I had to get back to work and had a 2 year to chase around. I would really recommend 2 full days of bed rest after.

Piece of cake. And I had twins so they had to do it twice during the same procedure. Just be sure you're going to someone who has a really good reputation and has done it a thousand times. I drove myself home right afterwards and that was that. I don't remember "fish" results being discussed or offered. Good luck. :-)

I had one done because I was 37 years old when I was pregnant. I was so nervous and scared that a CVS might result in a miscarriage (small chance but still a risk), but I was more nervous to not now if the baby wasn't going to be healthy as a result of my age. I did it and it was painless. It did feel similar to a papsmear but you won't feel anything when the needle is inserted. I now have a healthy 4 month old. Good luck! It wasn't as bad as I imagined it to be. There was no bleeding at all and I made myself stay in bed for a day.

I have had three of them. Two were relatively painless (like a pap smear) and one was kind of painfull. Only after the last one did I have a small amount of bleeded...but none resulted in a miscarraige. I felt just fine after the test....again a lot like a pap smear. I also paid for the fish results....but I am a super impatient person.

did you go through the prescreening (the BUN test - ultrasound to look at the neural tube and accompanying blood test) and the numbers warranted a CVS?
i never ended up having one, but i think that it's pretty painless.
good luck!
