Hi Moms,

My son has his first loose tooth :) I want to do something special for the first one.. I've heard of mom's having the tooth fairy write cute letter, etc (along with money)... Suggestions?
Just out of curiousity, how much did your child get for their first tooth?

What can I do next?

I seen on pinterest that people spray the dollar bill with glitter spray. I thought that was cute. I also did see the tiny notes that come with the money those were cute too.

For me....I didn't do anything but put money under their pillow.

Also, if I had a do-over with my kids I would get or make a tooth fairy pillow that hangs on the door because its a pain sometimes trying to find the tooth under their pillow.

One word of caution~ don't raise the expectation too high. Your kiddo is going to lose lots of teeth and it can get pricey and difficult if you are having to write letters at 9pm because his tooth comes out.

Having said that, we have written letters and sprinkled fairy dust (glitter) on the pillow after putting the money under it. For the first one, you could do something special but I would make sure that the tooth fairy specifies that this is a special tooth.

Good luck~

My daugter had a little tooth box next to her bed..I usually gave her $1.
I got some fine glitter from the craft store and would sprinkle a little over her bed and around the box! The first time she was so excited, she didn't want it cleaned up for a few days because it was proof the tooth fairy was there! Very fun memories! :)

Money under pillow. Call it a day. Just that is exciting enough.

I second the tooth pillow idea. Locating the tooth in the middle of the night is such a pain. A friend of mine had a tooth fairy box. It was a box she picked up at the craft store, decorated it with her daughter, and used it for leaving teeth and getting money. What a great idea.

I wouldn't make a huge deal out of the tooth fairy since this is the first of many teeth he'll be losing. Make a big deal out of leaving the tooth for the tooth fairy.

I second the pillow or box. My daughter woke up while I searched under her pillow and busted me. I felt terrible that she found out that way. My son has a small bowl he leaves on his train table. So much easier and less stressful!

Our kids got a dollar and a trinket. The trinket for my daughter was a charm for a charm bracelet. The trinket for my son was collectable trading cards.

And we hang a bag from the bedroom doorknob, so that the fairy doesn't wake the kids.

The tooth fairy only brings tooth related gifts. When my son lost his first tooth, he got a cool light up toothbrush that he loved. The next time, sugarless gum (that he didn't have to share-lol). It is the tooth fairy after all. She promotes excellent dental hygiene, right? It can be fun, but not money related. Most kids could give a flip in the wind about money. It's the excitement of losing the tooth and getting rewarded.

I got a toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste (my parents were too practical).

Good luck to you and yours,

I found a letter from the tooth fairy online and printed that out. We left a dollar and something from the dollar store. The letter and dollar store item were just for the first tooth.

put a quarter under the pillow with a note that says just a reminder I only pay for shiny clean teeth so keep up the good work brushing. thats it. otherwise your going to have a 6 year old expecting santa clause epic events for each tooth lost.

forgot to add we did have them wrap the tooth in toilet paper and put it in an envelope. that way you can get the envelope and slide it out. instead of a lot of groping for the tiny tooth.
