Cute Fear in 17Mo Old

So... I figured out slowly that my 17mo old daughter is afraid of stepping in water.

When she was a few months younger, I swiffered an area of the floor and she charged through it twice before I could get to her and slipped both times. Now she cries any time her feet touch anything wet on our kitchen floor.

Last night she freaked out at a puddle about two inches in diameter that happened while I was emptying the dishwasher. I even wiped it up and she still fussed/cried as she took a wide berth around the area it used to be to get to me.

What can I do to help her get over this fear? Is there anything? Or do I just wait it out?

What can I do next?

HAHA!! It's a phase, enjoy it while it lasts :)

My middle child used to be afraid to put her feet in grass or sand. I could literally sit her on a 2x2 foot baby blanket in the middle of the beach or a field, and she wouldn't attempt to leave the safety of the blanket!! It was better than hauling the pack and play everywhere!

Enjoy it while it lasts, this time next year, your kiddo will be aiming for puddles ;)

Totally a phase! My daughter at 2 was afraid of the wind! Anytime it got windy she would get scared, want to be held, and she would try to hold everything so it wouldn't blow away! It was adorable, but I felt bad b/c she was so scared. After a few weeks it stopped and now she could care less if it's windy out. Good Luck waiting it out! :)

My second son hated grass! The blanket would be my babysitter so to speak when we were outside playing. I would be running around with my oldest and I knew right where to find him in our yard. That lasted from 6 months until about 2. Even with shoes he was still leary!

Just wait it out and she will over come it. It was a lesson learned on running where water is present. She may forget why she is so careful but she will always be careful when its around.

What does she do when she has to take a bath? Lol!

Too funny! Now that puddle season is back, get you both some cute rain boots and go find puddles outside and show her how to jump in them! Once she sees how fun it is, maybe she wont be so scared anymore.

she will get a new fear soon.

My son was afraid of breathing equipment (nebulizers for asthma) at school someone got a breathing treatment and the noise scared him.

He was afraid of monsters in his closet.

Then he watched them put in our new flooring.. and he was afraid of compressors.. Woke up scraming about compressors coming in his room.

They just move on to a new fear until they figure out the world.

She'll get over it, my one son was afraid of grass at about 9 months old and wouldn't let his feet touch it, some were afraid of the bathtub, they all got over it. I know first hand though that slipping on wet floors is not fun so you might show her how to walk slowly through a wet area so she sees it can be done slowly.
