Honestly I have no idea what a custody lawyer is. I know family law attorneys, I know family law attorneys that are court appointed GALs but I have never heard of a custody lawyer.
Custody is tricky in any state especially if you think it is like it was 20 years ago where everything was about the mom.
Anyway find one in St Louis. I do not know a single attorney in St Louis that isn't licensed in Illinois as well. This is just my opinion but the best family law attorneys for custody are those that have a large adoption practice. They get that way because they advocate for the kids. Mine is one of them but he is based in Clayton and carries a 350 an hour price tag. He may do pro bono, I don't know. If you want his name, message me.
