Curious About the Healing Process of RSV

I have two girls, 28 months and 7 months, and both of them just recently got over RSV. It was pretty bad--we spent a whole week alternating breathing treatments between the two of them. My older daughter bounced back pretty quickly, but it took my 7 month old a while longer to recuperate. I would say maybe 5 more days before her breathing calmed down and she wasn't coughing as much. Yes, she is getting better! My ped told me that it takes the tiny ones a bit longer to get better, as their immune system is still pretty brand new, and not used to much of anything attacking it. It's hard to see them sick, believe me, I know! I hope she feels better soon.

my son had RSV when he was 3 weeks old,[[but he was born 6 weeks early]] and was admitted to the hospital for a week... there isnt really anything you can do but just wait it out. then when he got out he got a shot of synigis and that is suppose to help the baby not get RSV again. i would ask ur doctor about that. but if ur unsure about anything, ask her doctor..

So sorry to hear about that. There's nothing worse than our little ones being sick and can't do anything about it.
My daughter had RSV the day she turned 1. It was horrible. She was in the hospital for about 2 weeks. Then while she was in the hospital I got RSV. but it's not as bad for adults.It's more like the flu or us.

I know its hard but she will get better. I remember it took forever for my daughter to get better. Make sure when you get home give the meds. as directed. Everything will be fine. And her doctor assured me there is not long term effects from RSV. Now my daughter is a healthy 7 year old.

hope all goes well. And try to get some sleep. I know the hospital beds they have for parents aren't comfy.

My best advice is if you are at all concerned please take her to her Pediatrician. RSV is very serious and I'm sure you're aware of its dangers.

As the Mommy of a preemie, I've seen how easy it can be to relapse and have MORE issues. The length of healing is around 1-2 weeks, and this can include more cold-like symptoms. But, when in doubt take her to the doctor.

I looked through all my research and I couldn't find anything on the post-treatment symptoms.

my nephews had bronchulitis (which is basically rsv but wont come up positive in a rsv test). they get the synigis shots. anyways they were sick for a long time and went on asthma medication and oral steriods to clear up their lungs. they still take asthma meds (for asthma) when they are sick. i dont exactly remember how long it took them to recover but i would call your babies dr if she is still coughing after a couple weeks. good luck with your baby!

hey A.! You are perfectly right! My child has never had RSV but I'm a family physician and trust me RSV season is in full effect! We had 25 pediatric patients admitted and 19 had RSV and were admitted because they required oxygen. It is a virus and like many of the common cold viruses may linger for quite some time. You'll notice that your child may sound "junky" for another week or so. Don't be alarmed! It's the natural course for the virus. If your child begins having to work harder to breathe, has a persistentt fever, or shows signs of not getting enough oxygen (like turning blue) go to your doctors or the hospital. Take care!

My eleven year old daughter had RSV at one month old. She is very healthy now. I recall the same thing how after she got out of the hospital, it seemed worse than the initial onset. Just keep following the doctors orders with the breathing treatments and any other meds. She will get better, but if something doesn't feel right go back to the doctor's office and get her checked out. There is nothing wrong with giving yourself peace of mind knowing that she is okay. Just keep in mind some kids when they get RSV, can get asthma when they get older. I have been very lucky that my daughter did not get asthma. Just remember that your baby will get better, just hang in there. Also make sure to wash your hands before you hold her and not let others around your baby until she get better. We wore face mask to keep her from getting sicker once she was home from the hospital. All precautions should be used.

My son had RSV when he was 8 weeks old. The doctor took an x-ray of his lungs and he was admitted to the hospital for 3 days. It was horrible. I took him to the doctor on a Friday and was told to bring him back in if he wasn't better. He admitted that because I was a new mom they often think we may be exagerating the symptoms. Then he decided to take an x-ray and found that he had a spot o his lungs, suggesting pneumonia or something else. He was sent to hospital by ambulance. My son was admitted on Monday only 2 days after seeing the doctor. 2 miserable days. And I wasn't going to take him in. There isn't a lot they can do since it's viral, but I knew he was going to be monitored. Plus, he couldn't eat because he was too congested. So I would assure you that you are not over reacting and may feel better if you take her in for a follow-up. Follow your mother's instinct. If nothing else it can give you peace of mind.
