what's wrong with it holding 16oz? you don't have to fill it up. I had a 32 oz cup I use to carry around when I was pregnant and kept it full of water, and my 2 yr old loves carrying it around and drinking from it.
Does anyone know of a good cup with a straw for grade schoolers? I love the ones I've bought for myself, but they hold 16 oz. I have the Dora & Diego ones by Munchkin, but I guess I was looking for a design that would appeal more to older kids.
I just love the idea of having a screw on lid and straw for less spills this summer. My 3 year old can still use his sippy cup, but I'd like to get rid of them!

Well, I love, love, love my Aladdin that I bought from Target. It is 16 oz, and I'm not sure they make smaller. Good question, though. I would also want something smaller than that. My kids like to drink milk, so they definitely don't need 16 oz.
Found mine at Wal-mart.
Hourglass shape w/screw on lid & straw.
Several colors. Opaque colors so you can see how much liquid is inside.
Inexpensive.
Brand: Love & Care approx $3.99
Look at REI or Dicks. We like the Nalgene with the suck mouth piece. They have cool kid styles and sizes. Look on-line.
Old navy has plastic ones that hold maybe 8oz
Tupperware has tumblers with lids that use regular straws. They come in 11 & 16 oz sizes and have what they call a drip-less straw seal. I have a set for my kids that we have been using for at least 6 or 7 years. My kids are 8 & 11 and still use them for water by their bed or if they want to have a drink in the family room.
If the link below doesn't work, go to the Tupperware website and search for impressions tumblers.

We've gotten the metal thermos ones from Target and they've held up well. They do hold probably 16oz, but my kids drink that with no problem. I like them because they aren't plastic and they have a lid that snaps shut with a button to pop up the lid and the soft straw. if the straws wear out you can order just that part without having to replace the whole thing. The don't hold up well to kids dropping them on the lid part though. We've had one break that way and the lid would no longer close.
Good luck
16 oz. cup is fine for your 3 year old. Its not that big.
Many kiddie cups, come with a flexible straw in it... and the lid flips over to "close" the cup and the straw bends down into it. So that when it is closed it does not spill.
Lots of places have these.
I found mine at our local CVS stores. In the kiddie aisle.

I couldn't find a good straw cup so this is what I bought for my guy to transition from a sippy cup to when he turned 3 last week, the Playtex Coolster, I found them at Target:

I got my son a Thermos brand one at Target. It has Cars2 on it, but the lid snaps shut and has a soft straw on the inside. I like it because you can do hot or cold drinks and the metal doesn't get hot or cold so you can handle it. It also fits in his lunch box perfect! It was a little pricey ($14.99) but I believe you get what you pay for and I think it will hold up for a long time!
Turvis Tumblers!!! They have a lifetime warrenty and many designs to chose from! You can even personalize them on the website! Bed Bath and Beyond have a large selection of them and they make awesome gifts for Birthdays and Christmas!
Check it out! We all have one in our family and it saves us in dishes!
We use the Playtex insulated straw cups for my 18 month old - they don't leak much, if at all and keep the drinks cool pretty long - she drinks milk all day from it...they are 9 oz and come in a variety of designs....you should be able to find them at most stores too (Target, WalMart, Walgreens, etc.) - here's a link so you can see what I'm talking about:

I know you said your kids are older, but I don't see why these wouldn't work ;)
