It sounds like your baby girl could possibly have Colic. My son (first born, who's now 4) did the same thing and I couldn't figure it out until I took him to the doctor. Unfortunately, there is very little known about the cause of colic, other than it can certainly be "gas" related. Try "Mylicon" drops which you can find at any drug store, WalMart, etc. This was a LIFE SAVER to both me and my husband in maintaining OUR sanity, as out little Nathan would start "crying" at exactly 6 p.m. every night until about midnight, for the first 4 months of his little life (then he went straight to teething, but that's a whole other story!) You might also want to discuss this with your pediatrician, as gasiness could be caused by whatever forumula you're using - you may have to switch to a different brand...possibly try a "soy" formula instead of lactose based. This can make a really big diffence in helping with gasiness as well. Even breast-fed babies can have colic. One other thing that really helped with Nathan was to put some "pressure" on his tummy. My husband or I would hold him face down with his tummy up against our forearms, supporting his head in either the crook of our elbow or in our hand. The pressure of his tummy pushed against our arm (or across your lap, etc.) really seemed to help. Try also swaddling her and laying her on her side or tummy...it seems to help expel gas, whereas being on their backs does not. Just make sure to never put her down like this without supervision! I hope some of this information helps, but the best advice I can give is to talk openly and candidly with your pediatrician - give him/her as much detail as possible so he/she can make the most accurate diagnosis. I'm sure its nothing serious though, and your daughter will "outgrow" whatever it is that's causing her distress. If it is Colic, although there is no defined or clear remedy for it, take solace in knowing that it WILL go away and that its only temporary. My son was so bad that I didn't want any more kids but, fortunately, that all changed as soon as his Colic went away. I'm now the very proud mother of not only my adorable, loving 4 year old son, but an absolutely BEAUTIFUL baby girl, turning 2 on St. Patty's Day! Best Wishes to you and your family.
