Crying All the Time...

Hi! I have a 6 week old and he cries all the time! I'm not sure if he is colic or if this is normal. When he is awake I try to sing, play CD's, walk, tummy time, toys, etc. and he just continues to cry. Sometimes I walk around bouncing him for awhile he will be fine and then he will cry. He is having bowel movements fine, does fine with formula, and does not have a temp. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

What can I do next?

Sounds like colic. My son had a bit of this, and gas drops seemed to help a TINY bit. Then our dr. gave him prescription drops (completely safe for their systems), and that seemed to help even more. Sometimes their little systems just have to mature, so it will get better over time!

Also, scrunching up my son's legs seemed to help a little. I'd lay him on his back on the bed or my lap, scrunch his legs up, and move them in big circles.

T., I hope you get more replies because I'm sure some moms out there know what you're going through. I didn't have a colicky baby so I'm not sure if that's what it is or not, but I do remember my son going through a period from about 6-8 weeks where he cried more than normal. If your son has always been a crier, I'm not sure what is wrong with him. I've heard those gas drops do help so maybe try those. Otherwise, hopefully he'll just grow out of it? I just remember when my son went through that crying period that I thought I was going to lose it! I was so tired and frustrated, but HANG IN! You sound like a great mom and I'm sure you'll do whatever you can. Good luck. Before you know it, like me, you'll have a 14-year-old who sasses back one minute and is hugging all over you telling you what a great mom you are :) Parenting is the hardest yet most rewarding job in the entire world.

AH! T.! I am so sorry for you and your little one! My son had colic and he was just miserable which made me stressed and miserable. It was NOT fun. It does sound like colic. Consider trying Nutramigen if it is still around. That was the ONLY formula my son didn't scream while on - once we found it - we ALWAYS used it. We had to go through several before we figured out the magic one that worked best for him. We also gave him infant gas drops which seemed to help him some too.
My son is now nine but I STILL vividly remember calling my husband almost daily at work because I was so sad that I couldn't get him comfortable! Just keep talking to your baby's pediatrician. Document all the crying and what works and doesn't, etc. and go over that with the pediatrician or their nurse and see what they suggest. Hang in there! :)

I had a colic baby! if that is what you have I will say a pray for you! It was the hardest thing I ever had to go through. I had to do it alone Dad couldn't stand it and would leave. He could be tired, or overtired. You know they say colic is a stomach thing. I never listened until now. My son is now 8 and was diagnosed with cronic constpation when he was 3. Even though he pooped fine as a baby, I guess he was having problems. I feel bad now I could have soaked him in a tub or something then. Just remain calm you are doing a great job. You can listen to him while he sleeps though, if he snores he is not sleeping sound. Could be allergies to anything. Good Luck

Try wearing your baby in a sling. Babies that are worn for most of the day generally are more content and therefore cry less. Go to the Dr. Sears website. He has a really good sling that he recommends. Also check out Happiest Baby on the Block and The No Cry Sleep Solution. These have really good ideas in them. Just remember, this is a stage, and he will grow out of it. Good luck.

Is he pulling at his ears? Nose clogged? infants are obligate nose breathers, if he can't breathe easily, he will cry. My first was colicky, before Mylicon drops, which, if he is colicky, are a GODSEND. Any trouble feeding? just when he's awake, or does it disrupt his sleep?

hi T.

I both my girls had colic they are now 8 and 3. The best thing that helped them was giving them gas drops before you feed them. If I forgot before they ate then give it to him right after he is done or it won't help as much. Even have a niece that did this also and she was breastfed. Her mom gave the gas drops and she said it helped alot.

My last baby was fuzy at night only. I have been blessed that none of my three were consent cryers. However, when they would have crying spells I would take a recieving blanket fold it long ways ( or roll it) and wrap it tight (not to tight just enough to put a little pressure on their little bellies). This helped with the older two. Now the thrid we had to go and get the gas drops Mylicon. Truly is a blessing. The worked wonderful. Clamed her within about 30 minutes. She was breastfeed at the time. They are a little pricy, but I did see that now they have a equate brand of them. So you might want to try that.
Good luck, and God Bless.
