Crockpots -- Best One(s)?

I want to do more slow-cooking in a crockpot, but the one I have is awful. The steam and water vapor created by the liquid in the pot (yes, I used recipes that were designed for the size of the crockpot), made the lid bounce and rattle which in turn, allowed tons of that precious heat and liquid to spill out and evaporate. Result -- burned food, a mess on the counter, and money wasted. I know the problem was not with the recipe. If you are a crockpot cooker, would you recommend your crockpot, and if so, what is the brand and model?

Thanks so much!!

Mom,
We are looking for a crockpot also - one with no lead or chrome or other yucky chemicals in the crock! I have been learning more about what leaches OUT of the crock - and that you need a crock that is lined correctly - to keep your family healthy.

I am looking forward to your answers! I hope to see a lot more!

Good luck,
M.

I have 3 Crock-Pot brand ones, a 4 quart and 2 - 7 quarts. They are made by Rival, and I LOVE them! I have the 2 because when the handle broke on my lid (I kept over tightening the screw oops!!) I called as they were out of stock of the lid on the website, the girl had me read her the numbers on the cord, and it was in warranty and she sent me a WHOLE new crock pot!!! YAY!! So I might have hubby put a drawer pull on the old lid :P I am planning on getting one for a friend for Christmas. My mother has one that she has had and used for more then 35 years!!

I do wonder if yours might be broken honestly. You might consider calling the company about the issue that you have been having. I have cooked on low and high and NEVER had my lid rattle! (I use mine on average over the year 3 times a week.)

Good luck!! If you like I can give you some recipes that we use, just send me a message :)

I have used a couple different ones. I will say that I highly recommend that you don't get one that has the digital power switch. If the power goes out, even for 2 minutes, it won't turn the crockpot back on when the power comes back. Yes, experience there. I prefer the simple knob that you turn on hi or lo (or warm). The one I have is Cook's brand and I like it okay.

Anxious to see your answers since I need a new O., which I love but the handle came off last week. :(

ETA* For those that asked what brand mine is (that the handle cam off of), it's a Rival oval O.. But in it's defense, it IS 15 years old! I'd buy another Rival--it's had a good, long life! :) Oh--and if you don't want to buy the liners--just spray your crock with Olive Oil spray or Pam. Clean up couldn't be easier!

I have a Rival I bought at a warehouse club years ago to replace another Rival. I'm pretty satisfied with this brand. But no matter what you wind up with, I highly recommend using Reynold's Slow Cooker liners. They are the best thing since sliced bread. And make clean up a breeze.
