Is it safe to leave a crockpot on all day while I'm at work? I would love to start using one but it makes me nervous. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the responses. I realize that we all have a lot things that are left plugged in all day (ie tv, fridge) but I guess I was thinking about the heat. I mean, I don't leave my hair straightner or iron on all day, right? But thanks for understanding my concerns. Now I can start gathering some great crock pot recipes. : )

It's safe. As long as it's not next to a can of gasoline and a stack of newspapers. You leave the refrigerator plugged in, right?

I do it all the time. That's what they're made for, after all, right?
I wouldn't use a very old O., or O. with a frayed or taped cord, but if it's in good working order just put it in a spot with room all around it (even overhead) and you should be just fine.

It should be safe. Is this a new one or an old one? If it's new, it should be in good shape, and all you have to do is follow the directions that come with it. The temperatures on a crockpot are set very low, so that the cooker can be on for hours and hours. But there are some differences in the recipes from those you use in ordinary cooking.

If you have an older crockpot, take it to an appliance repair shop and ask them to double-check it, if it'll make you feel more comfortable.

You might try yours out first on a weekend, if you're home then, just to get used to seeing how it works.

I think the people who invented crockpots should get extra stars in their crowns!

I'm the same way!! It makes me crazy to leave it on...though that's what they are made for. I usually will only use mine on the weekends or when i'm at home to monitor it!!!!

Yes but make sure to have it set to low I never use high unless i'm home & if it is something that needs water or extra attention then no.Place it on the stove or counter top away from everything else.I love using mine when I need to.The moisture that it brings from having it on & not lifiting the lid creates soem nice soft pieces of meat, tender potatoes & carrots. The easiest thing you can start with to see if you like the use of the crock pot is beef stew, buy the meat I like it already chopped, chop what veggies you like rinse it all add a tad bit of water before placing all ingredients in toss in your food add the seasonings stir close lid & enjoy when you get home.

Yes. Kind of the point of a crockpot. If your nervous plug it into an outlet that has the (what is it called ground switch?) you know the test/ reset button. If in the 1 in a million chance something bad happens the switch will turn it off, but nothing will happen. Love my crockpot. By the way!

Just put it on the counter away from anything flammable or meltable, like the plastic bread bag.
It will be fine and you will come home to the best smelling house.
I'm using mine tomorrow.

It is nerve-wracking to leave something on all day, but they are safe to leave on all day.

Think about it this way...have you ever left a TV on, or left your alarm clock plugged in, or left a roast in the oven...you get the idea. I realize a crock pot generates heat, but it doesn't generate that much. Just make sure to have it on a level surface that is heat resistant, because the counter will got hot underneath.
