Cricket Wireless

I need a new phone and am looking at different providers as well. I currently have AT&T. I don't have any complaints about AT&T and most everyone I talk to has AT&T, but I noticed Cricket has a really inexpensive plan - $55/$60 a month for unlimited talk, messaging and data. Does anyone have Cricket in the Chicago area? What do you like or not like about it? I read that there are roaming charges. How does that work? Does anyone else have a great (and inexpensive) wireless provider?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi I have looked into Cricket, and (cant recall the name) the other low priced no contract phone carriers. After much research, I went with sprint. The coverage is way better than att (I barley ever lose a call now and did all the time w att)
They have the 69.99 plan and it is great. The other perk with them is you can get a free or very low cost andriod or blackberry phone with them and those others you pay full price. The limit for talk is 450 min. but the only min that count towards that are 7am-7pm m-f LAND LINES only. All cell calls are free no matter who you call, and nights and weekends are fee as well. I still have a home phone through vonage, so this works perfect for me. You can get more min for i think 10.00 more, but so far this has worked out for me. I only have 1 family member that still has a land line, so the minute thing is not an issue. Everthing else is free, roaming, navigation, etc. It is all standard.
Good luck! I know I am happy with my swich. I pay less than I did w att, and I only had talk and text:-( Happy phone shopping.

I actually answered a question like this for someone else on here.
I used to work for Cricket Customer service. Personally I would never have a cricket phone, but I travel a LOT and don't stay in one market. Unlike most of the other phone services with Cricket you have to stay within your market (meaning your city) or else you will be charged roaming. Most other service providers have done away with roaming. If you don't go outside your market much they are great for the price. Check with the store you are wanting to get your phone from and see the maps of exactly where your market is, or go to www.mycricket.com to check the coverage in your area. There is a number you have to dial (I think it's *228) before you leave your market for your phone to work correctly outside of your market, or else it might not work at all. If you are trying to keep your number from another phone expect it to take a day or longer to get your number changed over. The plans though, are great for texting, and a lot of people get them for their kids. I would also recommend going to what they call a Full Service Cricket Store, which is actually owned by Cricket as apposed to going somewhere that is an authorized dealer (at mycricket.com it will tell you which is which) because they will have the most up-to-date information about what is going on and being offered in your market.

Sorry, I copy and pasted that, but if you have another question, feel free to message me!

A friend of mine had Cricket and hated it. He switched from AT&T. He said they charged extra for everything, I kinda remember him saying it got more expensive as time went on, He is now back with AT&T
AT&T has rollover minutes, maybe lower your plan & take it easy the 1st few months to build up rollover minutes.
I have an iPhone and I DO NOT get many dropped calls.

Good luck,
