I have never seen a wrought iron crib. iron does not have give and has less air within it's structure so if bumped into by any part of the body it would not be pleasant. Wood is lighter, has give and if needed can quickly be broken if a baby would somehow get caught, wrought iron not so much.

Definitely wood...the child will be bumping into the sides, falling into the sides, chewing on it, climbing out of it, etc...wood seems safer to me.

I've only had a wood crib, so I can't specifically answer your question. However, just thinking of an iron crib makes me wonder...babies and toddlers hit their heads A LOT! It would probably hurt very badly, to knock their head against an iron crib. My son also chewed on his crib. Not just the part with a teething guard, but all over it. Iron wouldn't be very good for that.
