I bought an inexpensive toddler bed at Wal-Mart for $50 and it was less than a foot above the ground. Real good height for a little one.

There is nothing to be ashamed about putting a mattress on the floor, too. We did that too for a while. I do recommend a baby gate for the bedroom door. You can still here them cry, but they cannot wonder throughout the house that way.

I agree, crib tent or mattress on the floor. My son sleeps on a mattress on the floor cause he rolls off his bed.

A.,
Get a Crib Tent. That is what I did when my youngest started climbing out of his crib when he was about the same as your child. Not only was I frustrated by his crawling out when he should be going to sleep, I was worried about the idea of him waking up in the middle of the night and crawling out and getting hurt.

Many people will be against this I am sure. But the tent I purchased was a mesh pop up - completely see through that attached to the rail system of the crib. We made it fun for him - he got to "camp out" in his crib. He didn't fuss about it and I had peace of mind that when he was sleeping and I was sleeping he wasn't going to be able to get out of his bed.

Good Luck! My little crib climber now - at the age of 3 1/2 is the biggest dare devil of my three boys:) Just recently he "Surfed" down the stairs in a laundry basket, so you may have many years of adventure ahead!

When my son started climbing out at 15 months, we modified his crib. We took the springs out completely and set the mattress on the floor to make it a very tall crib. I realize it only worked because of the style of his crib (convertible crib with a very low-to-the-ground frame), but thought I'd share just in case you have a similar type. He just turned 2 1/2 and is still in it.

If its a safety issue, have you considered just putting a mattress on the floor? You don't need to have a bedframe. Just be sure that any bookcases or dressers are anchored to the wall so that he can't climb on them and hurt himself.

Hi A.,

If you are not comfortable with taking him out of the crib, then don't. I would reccommend getting the crib cover (tent) that covers the top of the crib to prevent little ones from climbing out. They are awesome, and there is room for him stand up. These can be bought at Babies R Us for about $20 or $25.
