Crib Tent or Move to a Bed?

My 20 month old son figured out today that he can climb his crib. He wasn't out, but he was half over. He is completely opposite of my almost 6 year old, who didn't even try to climb out of his crib until 2 years old. This one climbs everything (my kitchen table chairs are permanently on top of the table and the computer chair is always in time out in the laundry room lol!!!! He is just into everything - pulling all of his cups and bowls out of the cupboard, trying to find anything he can to use as a stool to take pictures off the walls - you get the idea. I'm not sure if I could possibly child proof his room yet to put him in a bed, but also not sure if those crib tents I see are any good. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Crib tent is my vote. He is just to young to stay in a bed and he'll be roaming the house in the night and end up getting hurt. I used a crib tent for my now 5 year and it worked great. As for the chairs on the table, just a suggestion on that too. We used bungee cords under the table around the legs of the chairs. It seems safer then possibly having a chair pulled down on a little head. It was a pain to get under there a few times a day but worth it. Good Luck!

Oh goodness S.! I thankfully was blessed that my son didn't do the crib climbing til 2.5 years old. He has been a climber since he could walk though. My friend said the tent worked for her kid but since you have an older child your little one may transfer to a bed alright since he sees him in bed all the time. Hopefully he'll wanna be a big boy and give you no trouble. I am still having problems getting Jared to go to sleep on his own in his toddler bed and it's been 3 months now. Best of luck to you. :)

My son climbed out way early too. I was not ready for the bedtime battles putting him in a "big boy" bed. I bought the crib tent and it worked wonders. Every night we zipped him in his little tent and there he stayed. It bought us another year until we were ready to face the transistion. Once you get them out of the crib, naps and bedtime are a struggle! Good Luck to you.

me myself I would NEVER use a crib tent! My fear is what if there is a fire and your child who is smarter than you think is trapped in his/her bed?? I know a lot of Moms will not agree but that is my thought on crib tents.

Good Morning S.,

I have four children. My now four year old was the exact same way. I can laugh with you and sympathize with you. What a great age. Anyway, we purchased a crib tent and absolutely loved it. It didn't bother him at all and it stopped him from some nasty falls I'm sure. I would purchase one fast. Once he discovers his freedom of climbing out, it may be a little more difficult to introduce. Plus, once you have one, you'll have peace of mind knowing he's safe.
Good luck to you!
