Crib Recommendations?

I need a new crib for my baby due this summer. My daughter will still be in our current crib and I don't think it has held up too well so I don't want to buy the same model. I am looking for something sturdy and safe, no drop side, but of course I would rather not spend a ton of money. I'd prefer something that comes in a dark brown or black finish and I'd love to be able to view it in person before ordering it. Any suggestions for a crib that you love and trust?

What can I do next?

Hi, A.A. This is probably not what you're looking for but I have a crib you can have if you want. It's used but in good shape. Also its light in color. We live in the Collegeville, PA area. Let me know if you're interested. ____@____.com luck! N.

I'd look on Craigslist, search for good name brands! Bellini is a great one. I'm sure you'll find something.

We bought this crib for my 3 1/2 year old son when he was 4 months old. We used it for him until he was 22 months and then one of our twins has been using it since then which was 21 months ago. We love it and have never had a problem with it. If I recall correctly, it comes in brown too.

A great "Consumer Reports" for baby products and gear is the book "Baby Bargains". They will rate them for quality among many other things.

If you have a Burlington Coat Factory (Baby Depot) or Babies R Us you might be able to see some cribs in person before purchasing.

I had a dark cherry finish crib and I can tell you that they do take a little longer to come in so order early.

We have one of the Munire Essex cribs. It was $299 and we like it. It was one of the recalled cribs, but they sent us the replacement part and directions on how to fix it (the lowest level wasn't low enough) and it was no problem. My only complaint (and this seems to be true of all the non-dropside cribs) is that the sheets are very hard to change because the mattress fits so tightly.

The finish seems to come off very easily, and the wood gets dented pretty easily. I don't really care about that, but we definitely aren't planning on this being his "lifetime" bed. It's fine for a crib, but hardly fine furniture. Hey, what do you want for $300?!?

I don't have any crib recommendations, but yesterday we were cleaning out our storage unit and I realized we still have the crib mattress we bought and never used. We live in Malvern...interested?

We highly recommend IKEA for crib. Basic design, extremely durable and a price most can actually afford. :) We have the Leksvik model with the best matress purchased on craigslist. Our son has been using it for 9 months and no sign of wear!
