I am trying to decide which Crib Mattress to get and Changing pad. We have a changing table and I was still thinking of getting the pad that curves up on all sides. I was looking at the Serta Extra Firm Mattress. Any suggestions? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Sounds like you're on the right track....I had a contour changing pad (they can't roll off) and the firmest mattress I could get (my mom bought it). I made changing pads that I put on top of the contour pad cover. They were two sided flannel with an inside of vinyl (the fabric is sold by the yard) - just buy a yard and a half and make squares (for travelling) and rectangles (for the changing table) - no need to finish the edges.

I bought the cheapest mattress they had, for my 2nd child. Because I had an expensive one in the other room for my 1st baby. I ended up having 2 cribs because they were close in age. I didn't notice a single difference between the expensive mattress and the cheap one. Same firmness and all. I always put a mattress pad over the mattress and then a nice chenille sheet for winter and crisp, soft cotton sheet for summer. Now my kids are in twin beds and I sold the mattresses online on craigslist. I got $10 for each one. No one wanted to pay any more for the expensive one. In the end, they both served the same purpose and seemed exactly the same. Save your money for cozy sheets and blankets. And buy a nicer mattress pad (those make a difference!). As far as the contored changing pad, I liked mine. Congrats on the twins. You'll have a blast. Good luck!

we have 2 kids and one on the way. we got the serta extra firm for both of them (they are only 11 months apart so both were in cribs at one point) and they still look brand new and we are using one for the new baby. as far as the changing pad, we also used the one that curves up and it worked well - babies are so squirmy that the sides are handy for keeping them somewhat contained. :) but, i'm sure you'll find out you'll be changing them just as much in their cribs, on the floor, couch, pack & play....etc!! so i wouldn't spend too much $ or worry about it too much. :)
best wishes!!

I would look into the organic/all cotton mattresses. There are new studies coming out that the regular mattresses can release chemicals.

They have a great selection at Buy Buy Baby and you can use unexpired Bed Bath & Beyond Coupons there (so stock up!).

I used the countour changing pads with terry cloth covers...buy 2-4 covers so you have an extra and can wash often!

I bought a plastic mattress and I am now very glad I did since my son has started peeing through his diapers at night and he's only 3 months.
