Hi,

I would like to get any advice or suggestions on how to handle credit problems. Unfortunately, my husband was unemployed for several months, of course that took a toll on our bills. Now, that we are getting back on our feet, we would like to consider purchasing a home but because have acquired some credit issues that might not be possible anytime soon. Obviously the items listed on our credit report or accurate. But, would like to ask a few questions get some direction from organization, company or individiual that can give us idea how to proceed. I'm trying to stay positive and think there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks in advance for all your advice,
M.

There is a radio show in the DFW area --Dave Ramsey on KLIF 570AM from 1-4 in the afternoon. People call in with questions and he answers tons of questions on debts and finance and may have some information for you. He also has a web site that you can look at. Good luck!

M.,
The best organization by far is CONSUMER CREDIT COUNSELING SERVICE! They have been around over 40 yrs. and they are FREE! I have known the VP of that group for a long time.

I even had their counselors come to my school as guest speakers for my seniors in high school. They talked about how to avoid the credit card scams of college, etc.

Good Luck,

Hi M.,
I am a licensed Mortgage Advisor for 13 years in the DFW area and my entire practice is centered around Financial Wellness and recovering from financial trauma. I practice a program with my clients called "Path 2 Buy" and have brought back many clients from Bankruptcy, Foreclosure, Short Sale, Divorce, Job Loss, Health and Medical financial destruction, or simply mismanagement of finances be able to get back on track and buy a home again. ...A home that they can afford and pay off with a reasonable payment and stay on track with their budget and life plan goals.

I also work with Doc Compton of Omega and he is a personal friend of mine. He runs an excellent business and can help you. However, you should start this process with a qualified Advisor who can evaluate your entire situation (credit is only 1 part of many things it takes to buy a home now).

People need to feel that they have a plan, and in my practice, we teach that it's OK to rent for another 5 months, or even 5 years, but it's not OK to cruise through life without a plan of action of how to move forward.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss further.

Hi :) I definitely agree with the Dave Ramsey comments. At the same time, he's unavailable to talk to in person! My husband is in mortgage and would gladly help to let you know what needs to be done with your credit to get into a house of your own. Check him out, his office is in Plano off of Parker and the tollway. Www.brianphillipshomeloans.com

If you are in the DFW area (they may be able to help even if you are not) then you should contact raiseyourscores.com. My insurance agent recommended the service. I was fairly young (22) when we decided to buy a home minor damage done, but will very little established long term credit history I couldn't afford any damage. I actually talked to the owner on multiple occassions he was able to raise my score 120 points in a matter of 90 days. I am not sure that those results are the same for all people, but I know that he reviewed the credit report and was very honest and open about what he thought he could help with and I thought it was worth a try. They allowed me to pay out the expedited fee and I paid for my repair and my husbands. He called me about my husbands (much older) and said he couldn't take my money he only had one negative mark ever. Very honest & helpful. I have referred MANY friends since who loved them. Your intent was never to not pay your financial obligation and it has been a hard road for many. Good luck on your home search I have every bit of faith he can they can help you. After their help I got financed for a home, insurance rates dropped, and I qualified for less than 5% interest when I bought my first car. There is light and you will get there.

Thanks,

D.

Dave Ramsey! Get his book or CD's and if possible, take one of his financial peace seminars! He has excellent expert advice on how to become and stay debt free on even very limited income. His book is easy to read and understand. You can probably even get his book at your local library and some churches offer his seminars free or for very little cost. Google him! And you are already making a good move just by acknowledging that you want to fix your financial woes!! Good luck and hang in there!!

well I have been going through the same thing.
I have gotten my credit up 100 points in 1 month but it is almost a full time job.
And it is a money making business for these credit places.
You need to get monitoring from www. transunion.com,
www.freecreditreport.com (experian), and www.equifax.com.
I most importantly www.myfico.com. For cars and houses they
pull your fico score, so no matter what your score on the others say the fico is what they use. I think because it is lower always. lol But the trick is to raise your fico you have to raise the other scores, but if you up your transunion 50 points that does not mean fico goes up 50, it may only go up 5 or 10. You will never find a formula, for any of this that is there great scam, so the banks can charge more interest and you never figure it out. My husband and I bought a house that owner financed. We would tell the realtor only houses that will owner fiance but they would come up with nothing. So then we would find rentals or leases and some for sale we liked and then I would call the listing agent and ask them to ask the owner if they would consider owner fiancing. Right now no matter what you have down and what your score it is hard to get a loan. So you might try what I did, we love our house. Any more questions you can email me ____@____.com

I agree with the other ladies suggestion with Dave Ramsey. Fortunately we aren't in the same place; however, I have MANY friends who were thousands and thousand and even tens of thousands of dollars in debt, credit cards (multiple) maxed out, student loans, car loans, etc. go through Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace seminars and use his books. Many of them are now debt free and the others are well on their way. He breaks everything down in a step by step process so you aren't so overwhelmed.
Good for you for wanting a more free life and here's to a new chapter in your life!

The best thing you can do is find a Financial Peace University class at a church near you. If you can't afford the class, you can get the book "The Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey. This book and class changed our lives. We now are debt-free except our house and are cash-flowing college for our daughter on $70,000 a year. Please read the book before going to any kind of credit counselor. You need to take care of our debt before considerig purchasing a home. Read the book; it will take you through the steps and change your life.
