Hi! I have a GAP Visa. It is the only credit card I use and I pay it off monthly. I like the "GAP Bucks" I earn by using the card. I usually get a $10 gift card or more each month. Most of the clothing in my home comes from their brands (Old Navy, GAP, GAP Kids, and Banana Republic).

However, for the past 3 months I've been unable to access my account online (I subscribe to paperless statements). The 'system' says my CVV number is incorrect. In May, they said a new card was on the way, so I would have to wait to get it to access my account. Fine. I paid on the phone. In June, they said the "fixed" the problem and allowed me to pay my bill on the phone. I just tried to log back on and guess what? I can't get on. I called again and he said I'm giving the wrong CVV number. (Funny, I just bought something online and Amazon took my CVV number just fine!). Of course I have to call back between 8am-8pm to speak with a supervisor. Oh, and the guy was in the Phillipines...this card is getting worse and worse...

So, my question is: I am not able to log on and verify my transactions. Is this legal? Basically, I've been paying my bill blindly. Any suggestions about what to say/do when I call the 'supervisor' tomorrow?

Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks, Ladies! I will ask to receive statements again. Yes, it's the correct card--I destroyed the expired one.

@Keisha: Good to know I'm not the only one having trouble:) Misery loves company!!!

@Dad on Purpose: I've never not paid a bill in my life, so I wouldn't think of not paying. I just hate not being able to review my bill before paying in full. I don't want to make the minimum payment, because I don't want to pay interest. I do ask them to read the charges, and they sound legit (places I shop, etc).

The reason I need my CVV number is because it says my password is not correct. So, I've been trying to reset my password, but they need the CVV number. ARGH!

Go back to paper statements. You should still be able to access online (once they straighten it out) but you you won't be at the mercy of the site.

There is NO law that states you must be able to access your account via the internet. NONE.

If you are NOT receiving your paperless statements via e-mail - you need to go back to paper billing and ask that all bills for the last three months be

When you call - get the supervisors name and mailing address. Confirm your statements will be paper again. And confirm that they will be sending you at no charge to you - the last three months of statements because a service they provide is not available to you.

Then WRITE THEM A LETTER. Get this in writing and documented. Send it via return receipt. So you can SHOW and have proof of trying to resolve the issue. Good for you for staying on top of it and paying your bill!! I'm glad to see that you are a responsible person and not using the excuse of not being able to see your bill that you didn't have to pay it!!

God knows what the laws are now. Thing is you make a purchase you have a receipt, you have a computer which means you have a calculator. In other words even without the online access you have the ability to add up your purchases and know if the balance due is correct, ya know? Viewing it online is just easier.

I have the old navy one, so it's the same company. I've had numerous problems logging in, not due to the cvv number though. There have been many a month where for w/e reason I couldn't log on. I think their system just sucks. I still get paper statements so I know whats going on. I know it sounds silly, but are you using the correct card? Meaning the number will be the same but that code is different, I did that with another card one time and didn't realize it for awhile :) I kept both and didn't realize it!

You need to unsubscribe from paperless billing and ask for back statements from however long you haven't been able to get into your online account. I'd also start keeping track of every purchase you make and keep up with the total. It doesn't make sense that their website won't accept your CVV number, but an online retailer will. Also, why are you even having to log on with your CVV number? Didn't you have to set up a username and password when you set up online access? If I were you, I'd start looking for a new card. And check your credit reports.

What would I say? I'd like paper statements mailed to my home address.

Yes, you're still liable. I understand your concern about not being able to see them, but you asked if you can avoid payment. No - you can't.
