Creaky Floors Waking My Son

Does anyone have a recommendation for a flooring expert (we're in evanston) that might be able to repair (not replace) creaky wood floors and stairs. They are just one of the many things that hinder my son's nap time (he's a pretty light sleeper). Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi S..

With three kids, the younger ones are always subject to the noises of the older ones. I always put a fan in the rooms of the kids and put it on low during naps and at night. THe white noise muffles out the sounds of the house. All three of my kids still sleep with fans!

White noise, we have creaky wood floors too. We have a fan in his room, on medium, pointed away from him. I don't travel anywhere without it. We still try to hop around creaky boards.

good luck.

Our floors are terrible. My husband and I could be seen hopping down the hallway when my guy was younger trying to avoid the creakiest of spots. They will get totally used to it but in the meantime I would recommend a sound machine with a white noise option. It works great! They have some at Target for $20.

Sorry, no recommendations for a pro, but...
If your wood floors are not covered by carpet, sometimes rubbing a little talcum powder (seriously, baby powder, who knew?) into the edges of the squeaky planks helps to lubricate them so they stop making so much noise. I saw this on a home improvement tv show years ago and it actually works if you can get the powder into the cracks. The older floors are easier than the newer ones because they used to be installed with wider cracks between the planks.
If your floors are covered with carpet, you're stuck unless you want to pull up the carpet and padding. Good luck! I've got spots that are carpeted in my son's room that I step OVER once I get him to sleep, it's pretty funny.

S.,
I don't know about the floors, but one of the things I have done to help my son sleep better is to put a sound machine in his room at nap/sleep time. It drowns out or at least minimizes sounds that in the past have interupted his sleep. Hope that helps!
