Hi, I had my third baby a year ago and after about six or seven months I got my period back. When I get it it has been lasting up to three weeks with a two or three week break in between. It is very light, some days just brown spotting and some days red. This has been going on for about four months. I went to the doctor the first time I got it back and they did an ultrasound and the results came back fine. I'm going to call again tommorow because this just does not seem right. In the meantime I was looking for some input from other moms! Thanks a lot!

What can I do next?

Have you had your thyroid tested? Pregnancy can wreak havoc with your thyroid, and this in turn can cause you to have never-ending periods, along with many other unpleasant symptoms. (Check to see if you have any other symptoms you recognize here: http://stopthethyroidmadness.com/long-and-pathetic/)

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

You are right...it isn't right. Check your thyroid and hormone levels. Check for fibroids. You may just need to be put on the pill to regulate you. Get a second opinion if you need to.

No, it's not normal. See another OB to get another opinion.

Hi,
I had a baby 21 months ago and I still think that my periods are returning to normal, if possible. Then I realized that maybe i don't know what normal is because I was on the pill for a period of time and then I was so focused on trying to get pregnant, that I don't think I was paying attention. Mine are lasting for a longer time span then they should. I will mention it to the Dr again, but in year's past, they never seemed to have a clear answer. I did read that it can take many, many months for a period to return to "normal". Maybe they will do a trial of birth control to see if that reset everything. They did this for me at once point..I think. Good luck! I am sure it's fine and will work out...of course a good sign that the sono was clear. Maybe some hormone bloodwork?
