Crayon on the _Ceiling_?!?!

Yup. My 6 yr. old had a friend over and the friend decided to use a crayon to hit this suction toy off the window. He missed the window but got the ceiling. Well, now we have about 4 or 5 long (about 5 inches each) brown lines on our white ceiling.

Any ideas how to get it off? I'm irritated right now and cannot really think of anything other than Awesome! cleaner (which seems to work on most everything). It makes it worse that he lied about it. My son wasn't even in the room when it occured and the boy's the one who decided to "notice" it. I found the crayon right on the table under the marks. arrrrgh.

Anyway, any thoughts would be great.

So What Happened?

Thanks for the suggestions. His big sister brought him back over with a magic eraser. I've never used one, so I tried it and it kinda worked. His mom sent them over for him to clean it, but I didn't feel comfortable with a 6 yr. old on step ladder cleaning the ceiling, so I told him to just be honest next time and I wouldn't be as upset. I'll clean it on the weekend, I guess. I don't want him falling off the ladder and hurting himself.

Cheryl B. -- I know that there is no way for either boy to be able to reach the ceiling. There is a table under the marks, but it's a simple card table. There's no way it would hold the weight of either child; Also, even if they were on the table, they still wouldn't be able to reach. So... taking that into consideration, the only plausible way for it get on the ceiling would be one of them to toss it, causing it to basically "skid" across.

Thanks again for the suggestions... I guess I really need to purchase a magic eraser! :)

My MIL once took a crayon and marked her own wall then sprayed WD40 on a soft cloth and wiped it right off! Then she cleaned it with a dishrag to remove the WD40 residue.
It was like a live infomercial!!

Does your ceiling have a sand finish like mine? Yes, you are screwed, no, magic eraser.

Okay, still works on the sand finish but you have to be careful not to rub the sand off.

My son dropped a blackberry smoothie in a small plastic toddler cup in the living room on his way from the kitchen to the porch where I told him to drink it so he wouldn't make a mess. The cup dropped straight down and hit the floor flat bottomed. It didn't really spill on the floor, but it splashed directly up and hit the ceiling in a spray about 8 feet by 8 feet. Only about 3 oz, but it went everywhere! I immediately tackled it with magic eraser, which managed to take off the paint, but within only a couple of minutes, the ceiling was so deeply stained that there was no taking it completely off. Funny story now, but very frustrating then! I had to repaint it with two coats to cover it. I shouldn't think crayon would stain it the way blackberry smoothies apparently do, but bear in mind that magic eraser DOES remove a layer of paint, so go easy on it. I have found olive oil takes off almost any stickiness or stain from surfaces, so I rarely use magic eraser - it's pretty abrasive if the surface is at all porous.

Just use a magic eraser and a warning on the next visit.

Magic erasers are great. Also maybe try Goo Gone. I think it even says it removes crayon on the label, I love that stuff.

If it makes you feel better (in a misery loves company kind of way), my 6 year old niece and a friend scraped a huge circle of the 'popcorn' off of a popcorn ceiling. I have never seen my brother so mad, they had to re-do the whole ceiling.

WD-40! Just spray it on and wipe off with a dry cloth. The crayon will be gone and the WD-40 leaves no stain. Try it! It works great!

I would use a Mr. Clean scrubber.

FYI - If a crayon hit the ceiling, it would not travel along the ceiling for 4 - 5 inches before falling. That story is not true. I suggest you ask your child about it again.
