Cramping While Pregnant

I think I post more questions than anyone else, is that a sign of having only mamasource friends!? :o)
I am between 2 and 3 weeks pregnant, by best guess, and have been experiencing what I would describe as moderate cramping today. While this is not my first pregnancy, my son is almost 6 and I am finding that I have forgotten what is "normal" and what is not and am freaking myself out. Is this kind of cramping normal? I have no bleeding, just cramping. Thanks for patiently answering all of my questions! This site has been a great source of information and comfort for me.

What can I do next?

Sometimes you do have a little cramping. Sometimes you have what's called round ligament pain. This is where everything is stretching. You may be a little early for that, if you are only 2-3 weeks. Have you seen you prenatal doctor yet? You probably need a ultrasound to make sure your pregnancy is in the right place and not in your tubes. Usually a tubal pregnacy is very painful. My advice to you is to see your prenatal doctor just to make sure everything is ok and to verify your dates.

Congratulations! Because I was on birth control when I got pregnant (yes, it happens), I kept expecting my period to start any day. Of course it never did, much to my surprise; nevertheless, I remember being doubly surprised because I had had most of the usual PMS symptoms I always get- bloaty, tired, and crampy. Obviously, this could have been my imagination, since I was "expecting" to start. But, since you mentioned this, maybe not. I'm no doctor, but your body probably knows what it's doing. If something looks or feels very wrong, call the OB immediately. Barring that- enjoy! I only have the one, but I hear it's different every time.

I got pregnant with my daughter 3 years after my son and had already forgotten what pregnacy was like! I had moderate to severe cramping when I found out I was pregnant (was very scared) and doc told me it was the muscles stretching. Last almost entire pregnancy but get checked to be on the safe side because what is wrong with one person is not necessarily wrong with the next. Good luck

I also had cramping that early in the pregnancy the Dr. said that it was just part of it as long as you are not having any bleeding. If you are really uncomfortable maybe you should be check out it is better to be safe than sorry. Congrats and good luck with your pregnancy

Please trust your instincts. You know your body more than any one else. When I was 24 weeks I knew something was wrong. I didn't know what. I thought I had a cold that had gone into my lungs. I called that Monday after a 4 day weekend, and I guess they were really really busy with a couple of emergencies. I was passed around 4 times asking for an appointment. I made them see me. Guess what I was rushed to the hospital, with in 20 minutes of me being seen.
Bottom line if you are deeply concerned, make an appointment.

L.,

I am going on my 4th month of pregnancy. I can COMPLETELY understand what you mean by forgetting what is "normal" and what isn't! My youngest child is 10 years old. I'm only 31, but considering my daughter was born 10 years ago, I really didn't think that I would be doing this again! Anyway, a few weeks ago I started feeling a LOT of pressure. I'm talking the kind of pressure I remember having when I was almost full term before. I was pretty conserned and started looking up info on the computer. There seemed to be a lot of information about cramping during my search and what it said was that it was very normal to have light cramping (kind of like when you're about to start your cycle) because your body isn't quite figured out you're carrying a baby now.

If it were me, if I wasn't cramping very much, I wouldn't think too much about it (only because you're not bleeding). If you're having any kind of discharge or your cramps are more than light, I would contact my doctor.

That's just my thoughts. I think it's best to go with your gut.

Anyway, hope everything works out!! Congratulations!

I done the same thing. My daughters are 8 years apart and when I was about 4 to 5 weeks pregnant with both I cramped really bad. So bad I thought I was losing them, but my doctor assured me that it was normal. Don't worry.

I also experienced cramping with my pregnancy and was told by my ob that it was probably my uterus stretching. This may be what is causing it? If you're really worried about it you may want to call a nurses' line to get more info. Hope this helps and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

My doctor said that it can be normal. If you are dehydrated at all it can cause the cramping. Just make sure you are getting those 8 glasses of water (not coke or any other caffenated drink lol). See if that helps.

Don't worry, it is totally normal to feel slight cramping at this stage, and maybe even some light spotting. I remember when I was pregnant with my daughter at this stage and didn't know it, I kept thinking I was about to start my period, because I had all my pms syptoms, including cramps. Congratulations and good luck with everything!

Congrats on your new pregnancy! ;)
If I recall correctly, I had light cramping in the first weeks of my pregnancy too. As long as it isn't hard cramping or any other signs, like bleeding and such - I say its normal. Again, Congrats!

Hi L.,

I had quite a bit of cramping in the first couple of months of my pregnancy. In fact, before I found out I was pregnant, I was sure that I was about to start my period because of the cramps. After finding out I was pregnant, the cramps really made me nervous. But I read that it was normal, and sure enough, everything was fine. Hope that helps!

L. I cramped and felt like I was going to start my period for 5 weeks (even my breasts were sore). I am not a doctor but I think that it's normal to cramp a little thru the whole pregnancy. I finally figured out I was pregnant when I got nausiated in Walmart Deli section (crazy but true). Good luck with your pregnancy!!!
