My son is almost three months and has bad cradle cap. I been putting baby oil on like his doctor said to but it seems to be making it worse. Anyone have any other ideas on fixing this?

What can I do next?

Most baby oils are too thick & will not penetrate. Use a natural oil, like a calendula oil, even Olive oil from the cupboard will help. Use the oil while its warm, by rubbing it in your hands before massaging onto the scalp. Then comb out the flakes. It'll seem a little messy & the flakes will stick to the hair, but it'll rinse easily.

My baby had the same problem... i sat there with a baby brush and brushed his hair everyday... My mom had also suggested that when I give him a bath and wash his hair, while the shampoo is still in it, gently brush it. I quit putting any type of oil in his hair. he still has a little bit but it has improved SOOO much! hope this helps!!

My son had cradle cap, And my Dr. told me to use the regular Head and sholders and a firm toothbrush. You put about a pea size amount and rub it in and then gentley use the toothbrush It was gone with in two weeks.

Hi K.. I ended up using head and shoulders and/or Pert Plus and a soft baby brush. All three of my children had no issues from using any of these. It took about 4-5 different times. Good luck!

Hi K.
I have a 9 month old son and a 3 1/2 year old daughter and they both had cradle cap. I know the doctors say put oil on it but I didn't. I just put their baby shampoo/soap in their hair and combed through it and then rinsed and combed through it again. Make sure you do the final rinse as well. Also rinse the comb off periodically. Don't worry I saw a 5 month old baby with cradle cap as well. It will go away it just takes time!

my daughter had cradle cap. I put baby oil on her head also. I started giving her a bath every other day but her cradle cap didn't go away until she got older, around a year old. The dr. told me that it bothers the parents more than the baby, and not to worry about it. Actually she still has it a little behind her ears, but the dr. said it will go away eventually.

Its better to use like aveeno baby lotion instead of oil.. oil just hides it instead of healing it..

My son had really bad cradle cap and it got so bad that the pedi said to scrape it off. You soak the top with baby oil for about 5 minutes and then get a comb and start brushing (lightly) against the hair (scalp). It sounds bad but it's not. He lost almost all of his hair because it came out in puffs. It grew back a month later. From what I've experienced it doesn't go away on it's own... you have to take it off.
