I really want to replace my laminate countertops. I would prefer Silestone but granite would be ok. Does anyone have any recommendations for a reliable, reasonable installer preferably in the Plano, Frisco, Allen, McKinney area???

Thanks ahead of time!

Hi R.:
My husband was a home builder for 8 years w/ Ashton Woods and then Sotherby homes. He now owns his own home repair and remodeling company we are in our 3rd year. You can certainly give him a call. Most of his clients are in Allen, Frisco and McKinney. His name is Josh and his number is: ###-###-####. Good Luck- I know how exciting it is to freshen up the look of your home!

6 years ago we went to the Home Depot off the tollway in Plano and they did our entire kitchen, including Silestone counter tops.......and they did a great job at a reasonable price.

Just an opinion that my realtor told me...granite is the ultimate in solid service countertops. You will recoup every penny if you sold your house. We used Old World Granite by 35 and 635 (sorry not the area you requested). We paid less for granite there than what Home Depot was charging for silestone. We paid about $45 a square foot installed.

Check out granite transformations! We did this a couple of years ago and LOVE the results. http://www.granitetransformations.com (I believe) It's 95% granite with some resin mixed in which means there is no maintenance...it goes in over your existing counters which means less landfill...it installs in 1 day and they don't need to destroy the backsplash to do it which means less headache...and it's half the price of granite (and still looks great, in my opinion).

along those same lines...does anybody know of a granite yard (not a store) where you can pick out your own slab?

Hi R.,

I recently had my kitchen laminate countertops replaced with granite and used a company named Countersource to do the work. The installers were friendly, and the sales person I used was great and helpful beyond belief. I went with them for a couple of reasons, I first wanted a company that had been in business for a while, I didn't want a fly by night company. While finding someone to do this on the side may save you a few bucks now , if you have any issues, you want a company that is going to stand behind their work and warranty and take care of any concerns that may come up. Also they are not a "remodeler" as Home Depot is, which often charges you more that going directly to a company like Countersource yourself. Home Depot doesn't have their employees do the work, they contract the work out to companies that you could go to yourself and save paying them money for not really doing anything but paperwork.
You can visit their website at www.countersource.net. They also have remnants that you can look at from the website. Contact me if you have any questions. Good luck.

If you really want Silestone, I think you're going to have to pay full retail at Great Indoors, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. There are so many granite places now the price has really gotten competitive. But, don't sell yourself short to your heart's desire. Get what you want so that everytime you enter your kitchen you are happy! Both will increase the value of your property.

We just replaced our bathroom vanity top with granite. Since our top was relatively small, we went to a place called Stone Cutters in McKinney and got a remnant. I believe they usually supply other stores with granite, like seconds and surplus, etc. Basically they are a warehouse, and I just went over there and looked at the pieces they had. It's dusty, and not set up to show people, but it was very worth it. It's on 380, west of 75 towards Airport Rd. I talked with Robert at ###-###-####. You can't just drive by, it's hard to spot since it is just a warehouse. We paid about $750 for a double sink vanity , and they installed it, and provided the sinks too!
