I store stuff in our oven. It's JUST sitting there doing nothing!
I got the idea from "Sex and The City" when Carrie said she stored sweaters in her oven.
Anyone out there love or hate their countertop breadbox? Any recommendations of what to avoid? Just looking to make my counter look less cluttered. My mom used to HATE her bread box, said bread went bad faster. This sounds counter-intuitive to me. We typically have a loaf of bread, some sandwich thins, maybe a package of hawaiian rolls or loaf of Italian or French Bread, and sometimes hamburger or hotdog buns depending on the menu for the week. Don't want to keep it in the pantry. Thanks!

I love my breadbox. It's an old, wooden one we've had for years. I love shoving all the bread stuff into it, and it's flat on top and holds the butter dish, the margarita salt container and a cute antique teacup and saucer.
Commercial bread is meant to be left out at room temperature or frozen, not refrigerated. The temp of the fridge is actually the proper temp for some types of bread mold.
We use a half-pan line pan (from a commercial kitchen: http://image.become.com/imageserver/s3/963487993-150-150-..., it's made of stainless steel and has no lid and fits right next to our toaster oven on the counter. We have so much from commercial kitchens that it fits right in. You can use a large bowl or a basket instead, but my point is that commercial bread left on the counter should last up to 5 days. If you aren't eating it that fast, freeze it.
Make sure you are closing the bread up properly after use. Home made breads and biscuits will go stale faster. The key is to only keep out what is in use, and freeze the rest.
HAHAHA Chritine J, I would cook the bread in the plastic if I left it in the oven. I could see myself burning the house down.
I have an old tin one. I love it. It keeps about 2 loaves of bread, a bagel bag and hamburger and hotdog buns packages.
I have a one sitting on my counter and I love it. Clutter busting and pratical since in my opinion it keeps the bread fresher longer. For the amount you describe you might want to make a stacked pile on your counter to measure the overall size. Based on what you describe that much would not fit in my bread box which is on the small side.
