Could My 4 Month Old Be Having Sezures??

I have a baby boy who just turned 4 months old on the sixth(by the way, i exclusively breast feed) well the other day, i was laying on the bed with him while he was feeding, when i noticed he started to shake. The first time it happened, i thought i was just seeing things, then it happened a second time, this time i pulled him off and looked at him to see if he was ok, as soon as i did that, he stopped shaking and started crying, only because he was not done feeding, so i put him back onto my breast... A few minutes later he started to shake for a third time, it lasted no more than about 4 seconds...the shaking was not like a shiver because he was cold, and it was'nt a really strong shake either, but it concerned me enough to call his doctor who then told me to bring him in. At the doctors, they had me take him for blood work and an EEG a few days later. Now im just waiting for the results from the EEG, which will tell me if he is having sezures or what. Now when i was pregnant, there were maybe two occassions where i felt my stomach shake, it almost felt like it had started to vibrate which, i thought was very stange. I came to find out that babies can have sezure inside of you, while you are pregnant. I am very concerned and axious to find out the results of his test, and I just wanted to know if any one else has had anything like this happen to their little one, and if so, any advice?

So What Happened?

Today i took my son to his follow up appt. to find out if there was anything wrong in the EEG. well the doctor told me everthing was normal, they did not find anything wrong. I asked her if there was a possibility that there was something but just not showing up on the EEG (being that some seizure wont show on an EEG unless they are having one as the test is being done). She said that the type of shaking i descibed is the type that would show on an EEG, reguardless if he was having one during the test or not. I will still keep an eye out for the shaking, but I guess I can take it easy for now. Thanks everyone for your kindness and concern, it is very appreciated. :)

I had the same thing happen when my daughter was an infant. She was sleeping in daddy's arms and I noticed she had an involuntary movement that I thought was a seizure. I didn't notice if her eyes were rolled back because it only lasted a matter of seconds and she woke as soon as I picked her up out of daddy's arms. We took her to the doctor, had an EEG done, worried a ton and the test showed nothing. About 6 months later, she had a cold with a low grade fever. She was asleep in her crib and when I went in to check on her, she was having a Fibril Seizure. That's when I realized that the first incident wasn't a seizure at all. Her body simply jerked involuntarily while she was sleeping. This happens to all of, even adults.

Also, remember what others have already said... Seizures can be controlled with medication and people who have them can lead happy normal lives. I know it's scary, but try and stay grounded and try not to worry about what is still unknown.

I hope your sons test results are OK. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us updated.

I too am sending hugs and support, I know even when you find the littlest thing wrong with your child (and this isn't little) it seems like you're falling into a neverending hole and can't catch your breath, but J. remember medicine is awesome now! My cousin grew up with controlled seizures, she never had once since being on the meds when she was little so there are a lot of great things and support out there. Could he be allergic to something you're eating? Well lots of hugs and support coming your way. p.s. I don;t know if its the same thing but my daughter used to do something like you're describing but she never had her eyes roll back, and it never made her stop concentrating, so we chalked it up to the shakes, and shes never had them since she was really little.

Both of my boys used to shiver/shake when they were urinating. The next time you see him shake, feel his diaper to see if it is warm and wet - that he just urinated. Our pediatrician (over 35 years in practice) told us this when they were infants, and he was exactly right - it only happened when they had just urinated. Hope this helps.

I had a similar experience with my third child - she was about 3 weeks early. When she was around 2-3 weeks old she would have times when she was asleep that she would "jerk" or "shake".

We did have the EEG done - and all was normal. They did tell us all the possiblities it could have been - very scarey!

They really just thought it was an involuntary reflex from an immature neurological system.

Please write and give up an update on the tests. Hopefully it's not seizures but if it is sezures are treatable.

Can't help but wonder how the tests came out and how you and your little boy are doing. Please send an update.
