hi moms! i got my wisdom teeth taken out on the 10th of november. everything went well the surgeon said. so far everything is healing well but my bottom right side. its still sore and i have numbness in the right side of my lip and chin. but what bothers me most is right behind where my bottom right tooth was cut out. its sore to the touch (not warm feeling) and i can feel that its swollen when you press on it (but its not visibly swollen). i can not open my mouth all the way and it hurts bad by the end f the day from chewing. im wondering if my jaw may have been fractured from the surgery or maybe its infected or something. im debating on if i need to make an appointment or not. what are your thoughts?

What can I do next?

Sometimes when they pull teeth, it messes with a nerve and can cause the numbness and tingling,, pain. You might have dry socket in that one, or infection. They know this can happen and would much rather you call and come in to see than suffer for weeks and cause more trouble for yourself. Make the call Monday and find out.

Could be a stitch that did not get taken out or that is below the gum-line and not dissolving. I would make a follow up appointment with a dentist so they could X-ray it.

I had my wisdom teeth taken out; although, it was years ago and I don't remember experiencing anything like that. If I were you I would make an appointment. If your face swells go in right away.

I don't think it's "normal" to have this pain to that degree a month later.
Please call & schedule an appointment asap.
You do NOT want to mess with an infection in the head area.
All the best!

Almost a month ago? Yeppers. You need an appointment. I'm sorry. It is probably infected. Most times after oral surgery - it heals in a week, if not less.

I'm not a dentist nor am I RDH - but it sounds infected to me.

If you can't make a weekend appointment. Gargle with warm salt water - making sure you swish around that area to avoid further infection. It might help as well.

Broken jaw? You wouldn't be able to move it. I had a friend who was into the extreme fighting (urgh) and he got his jaw broken in one of the kicks - he couldn't open his mouth but maybe one inch and he was in pain and crying...yeah - crying...

Get back to the doctor and get an xray done. There might be a bit of tooth left in there. You must have an infection, and you need antibiotics. The doctor might need to lance it. That happened to me (without a piece of tooth left it.) I would not let him leave out an xray.

Please make that appointment. There is NO reason NOT to. REALLY!!

If you are here on a message board, asking for medical advice, then yes, you need to make the appointment.

I hope I didn't come across as harsh, but honestly, we have NO clue. Why wouldn't you just go get it checked out, to be safe?

Sounds like nerve damage.

Get a second opinion in addition to a folllowup with the oral surgeon.
