Just recently I have noticed that my son has been getting coughing fits during rough play & running around. I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this and what came of it. I'm not really sure if I should take him to the doc or if its nothing to be concerned about. We are non smokers and he isn't exposed to smoke very often (only around stranger who smoke in public) but we do have animals. Any input is aprreciated. Thanks in advance!!

What can I do next?

Hello,
My 5 yr old had this problem last year I took her to the Dr and we thought it was activity induced asthema (spelling?)But it ended up being allergies. The doc prescribed her Zyrtec and it hasnt happened since.
I would recommend taking a trip to the Dr to make sure its not Asthma...allergies arent so scary but asthma can be.
Hope this helps:-)

I would also bring it up to the doctor. I think possibly exercise induced asthma as well. My niece also has these sympyoms. She was put on Singulair and an albuterol inhaler as needed for these attacks. You want to make sure that you catch it now. You don't want to have him miss out on fun because everytime he runs he coughs.

I would also suspect activity induced asthma. I would go to the doctor and have it checked out.

My son has the same thing. Is it a real barking sounding cough, kind of like a croup sounding cough?

If it is, your son may have asthema. You may want to ask his physician about it at your next visit.

I wonder if it is asthma.
I would bring it up next time he goes to the doctor.
Unless it's uncontrollable or he has wheezing.
My nephew is asthmatic and when he gets playing rough a lot of times he gets a deep cough. It is worse different times of the year because of allergies too. They have him rest and take deep breaths until he is under control. He also uses a nebulizer (spelling?) sometimes.
Good luck.

A chronic cough is a sign of asthma. However, there are LOTS of respiratory things going around right now. They seems to be draggin on and lasting forever, but are not that severe. He could just have a cold/virus. If it continues and/or he really seems to be out of breath or uncomfortable I would follow up with your doctor (sometimes it is just worth the peace of mind to go into the doctor's office).

You didn't mention if it was a dry or wet cough. Any congestion I pull out the mullin tea. I mix it with juice, it's great at breaking up congestion.
Good luck, A. H
