Yep, Vicks on the feet. Also a cool mist humidifier in the room can work wonders. Cool mist because it doesn't promote other bacteria from growing on the humidifier that can cause other issues. If her cough gets too bad get her to the doctor. But in the mean time, if she's coughing too much, take her in the bath room, close the door, and run the shower on full on hot. Steam it up in there. Should ease her coughing. Might help her nose open up if she stuffy too.

Good luck! I hope this passes quickly for you and she's back to being a happy baby.

try using a humidifier in her room, and use those Vick's plug-ins. I've also heard putting Vick's vapor rub on the bottom of their feet with socks over it can help. If the cough starts sounding wet, take her to the dr., otherwise just keep her hydrated and comfortable

Vicks Vapor Rub on the bottom of her feet and then put some socks on her.And the ointment works better than the cream...it's a bit messier but more efffective. Good luck.

Get a humidifier. They work wonders. Put it in whatever room she is in during the day and definitely have it going all night. Elderberry syrup is also great. (They will guide you to it at Whole Foods). Good luck and hope you sleep better tonight.

I have never tried this, but a friend has and swears it works. Rub Vicks on the bottoms of the feet and put socks on and go to bed. She swears you will not cough all night.

A vaporizer would most likely help with this, use the steam if there is anything in the lungs it will help clear it. Just like when you take a hot shower.

Hi! I just wanted to add that you should use the Baby Vics Vapor rub, versus the grown up kind. We've put it on our son's feet & put his socks on & it really does help.

Sounds like croup cough. Take her to the doctor first, they may give her a breathing treatment if necessary, otherwise, I was instructed by my pediatrician nurse to put my son (5 months old) in a steamy bathroom for 15 to 20 minutes twice a day. The steam works wonders. Basically, a croup cough is the mucus from their congestion has drained into their chest, the steam helps to break that mucus up so that they can have a more productive cough and the mucus will eventually come up. My son had croup a month ago, he's been congested all winter long, and I still put him in the steam room, twice a day to keep the congestion from going back into his chest, it has really helped prevent him from getting any worse and making him feel better.

Hope this helps

My suggestion would be to start saline drops in her nose and give her some water to break up the mucus in her chest.

If she has a little runny nose, then her dry cough at night is post nasal drip. Give her a little pediatric tylenol for stuffy noses and it should clear up the cough.

I don't know how it works but it does. Before bed rub Vicks on the bottom of her feet and put socks on. She will sleep wonderfully. I didn't believe it until I tried it!!

Good morning R.,

I am more of a home remedies mom.....I don't like to give my children medicine unless they really need it, especially if they are under the age of 1.
Now for the cough what work wonders is rubbing Vic's Vapor Rub under their feet and putting some socks on. Now because she is under one years old you may want to contact your doctor and see if it would be ok because she can develop an allergic reaction to it....although, the other day I saw some Baby Vic's Rub at Wal-mart but I didn't check if infants under the age of 1 can use it.....you can also make her some oregano tea and sweeten it with a little sugar (NOT HONEY) giving honey to an infant can be fatal. Just let the water boil first and then drop a few oregano leaves. Let seep until the water starts tinting don't leave them to long because the water will get very bitter. And give it to her at a warm temp....hopefully she will drink it, most babies do....and if she has congestion this tea will help her too to loosen and spit up the mucus. Well, these are my mommy tips hope they work for you.

Call your prediatrician and ask them if she can take an OTC cold and cough children's med and if so, which one and how much. If not, they should be able to prescribe one for a baby her age...good luck!

Well honey, friends lovingly call me Mama Vicks....and for a reason! Slather those little feet down with Vicks VapoRub and put her little socks on. It will releave the driy cough like magic. I would also put a humidifyer in with her too with the Vicks liquid in the water (not the little divit on the top of the humidifyer, but actually in the water. It will keep her clear - as well as you and your hubby.

FYI.... most of us have more issues when we turn on the heaters becauswe we are not use to the pushed heat so our sinuses suffer for it.

My 10 month old has a cold too and we have found a few things that helped. We use a humidifier every night and during naps. We also give him a warm bath every night. I let it get warm in the room before I put him in (make sure the water isn't too hot!) so there is a little steam. This has helped a lot. Also we have used the nasal spray and it seems to do a little.
Good luck and I hope this gets better and does not turn into a cold.

Vicks on chest, under clothes (not on neck where hands can get to and then rub eyes). Humidifier. Sleep slightly upright will help too. Runny nose means she is also draining in her throat which is irritating and causing her to cough. You want the Vicks to help her breathe and the humidifier to loosen up any flegm as well as ease her breathing.

Our 3 year old grandson was just diagnosed with the "croup". The doctor said they've seen a lot of it in the last week. It's caused by a virus so he's not being treated with antibiotics. We have a humidifier that we use and he's using a nebulizer to open his airways. Oddly enough, our first sign something was wrong wasn't a cough but his voice getting weaker and weaker. 2 days after being diagnosed he's now running a low-grade fever and the cough is much more pronounced (hard to misdiagnose that cough) and he has a LOT of congestion. Just keep an eye on your little angel and try to keep her as comfortable as you can. You've got a lot of good advice here. I'm going to actually put some Vicks VapoRub on his feet tonight to see if that'll help!

aahhhh. I remember those days...it could be post nasal drip if it's happening mostly when she is lying down. I spent many nights with my little one in my arms propped up on pillows on the couch. No, it's not comfortable, but it works since it decreases the drip. Good luck.

My daughter is now 2 yrs. old, but suffered from dry coughs and runny noses for 9 months (every night!). After finally switching pediatricians, out pediatrician suggested we take her to an allergist who also specializes in asthma. After doing this, the allergist believed that our daughter's problem was that because her lungs weren't fully developed, she might've been having some blockage and prescribed a breathing mask that releases a medicine (called Pulmicourt Respules). It took about 2 weeks for her to be okay with the mask, but it was our saving grace. She didn't cough at all the very first night (when she was having coughing fits EVERY night for months), and the only time she's coughed since then is when she has caught a cold from daycare (even then it's only for a couple of nights). We have been using this for about 3 months now. You might want to take your daughter to an allergist. We went to Dr. Tamboli in Katy. ###-###-#### Hope this helps!
