When I get sinus drainage, I get a dry cough at night like that.
What helps me: warm fluids, honey.
Try a humidifier in her room at night. It might help.
My daughter has been coughing for a couple weeks now. Before the tubes they told me it was drainage from her congestion due to the fluid in her ears. She got tubes last week and is doing wonderfully. No congestion. Happy little girl. But every night for 30 minutes, an hour, hour and a half, (it varies), she coughs and coughs. It is disrupting her sleep. They just keep telling me to give her honey and that will work. It isnt working. She is 21 months old and they wont let me give her cough syrup. And dont know what else it is exept drainage.
Any advice? Any suggestions on how to tame the cough?
**Added note: We do have a humidifier in her room. When I go in there in the morning it is like a sauna. Could she have developed an allergy? It is only at night, not during the day. And usually one episode for a length of time, then that's it back to bed.

Coughs take FOREVER to go away. I'm speaking from experience with myself too - I was sick about 3 weeks ago and the evil cough still shows itself when I'm settling down to go to bed.
There's a Little Remedies version of honey called Honey Elixir I've used that and had better results for some reason. Also try a honey/lemon tea heat 1/2 cup water add 1tbs honey and 1tbs lemon, mix well so the honey dissolves - let cool to a temp that she likes but make sure it's still warm - give this to her about an hour before bed time - in our house it's honey/lemon "tea" then upstairs for a steamed up bathroom bath, brush teeth, pajamas, read/cuddle bed.
As a side note it should not be ultra steamy in her room in the morning - you're saturating the air too much and it can create mold/mildew problems.
My son coughed like that and wias diagnosed with asthma.
Also-just read about a study finding that honey is just as effective as cough syrup.
PLEASE have her checked for asthma- some children have coughing as a symptom before they get really bad. My oldest daughter had this and almost died from asthma before the DR checked her for asthma, they just kept telling me all the usual things you have been doing. It is a simple, non-invasive test. Good luck & I hope she is well soon.
Try a putting vick's vapo rub on her feet, the put socks on her before she goes to bed. Sounds silly but it does work. My son used to get horrible coughing fits at night and this helped. The first year we did it (18 months old), he would stop within five to ten minutes and sleep great. Now that he is older (8), it doesn't stop the cough, but it makes it less frequent. I would keep giving her the honey too. Cough syrups taste terrible and they do not work...even prescription cough syrups. Good Luck!
Are you cleaning the humidifer daily. Our ped reminded us that we need to use bleach each morning to clean out the container that holds the water.
My son always has that nasty drainage cough..I would give it some more time-elevate her head while she's sleeping and keep some water by her bed for drinking.
It's only been a week since the tubes were installed. She's still healing and is probably coughing because of it.
I also suggest that it is still possible to have some drainage from the sinuses.
My son would often cough for 1/2 an hour to an hour at bedtime too. We finally made a connection to a sensitivity to milk products. If the cough doesn't resolve soon, I would look at a possible allergy to something.
