K.L.
My sister did this after having twins. We ran her first 5K together a few months ago, and she's been running regularly since. Even though I've been running for a long time, I did it with her, and it was really a great program. Good luck!
Just curious if anyone has done this running program. It seems like it really works from what I have read on the Internet and it also seems do-able. If you have done it, did it work for you? Have you continued running? Did it get you into better shape? I start Week 1 Day 1 tonight after kiddos are in bed.
I could also use an accountability partner....I could use the motivation and I would love to help motivate someone else!
Yay! I started Week 1 Day 1 of C25K and loved it. I felt so good while running and after running. I headed out to the school track and ran/walked until 9. I was the only one and it was so peaceful. The 20-30 min I have alone with peace and quiet is a good motivator...that and I'll be 30 on Monday :-) Thanks Moms for all your support and suggestions. It helped me realize that it is possible to get in shape and that there are so many people out there working on the same thing.
***I am starting Week 7 on Tuesday*** Thanks Moms for all your support. C25K has been great! I'm a little sad that I'm halfway finished :-)

I did not do this program to start, I actually started at RunOn in one of their classes that was great. I got word of this site and just started it with where I am and right now I am on week 7. It looks real solid and is pretty much how I started. I run 3 times a week and do strength/core training one to two times a week. It is important to do that to reduce risk of injury. I feel stronger in my runs now that I have incorporated it in the routine.
2 of my good friends just did this (technically couch to 4k, since that was the race they did ;). Both were at least 50+ lbs overweight, and neither had run before. One in her early thirties, one in his late thirties (just friends). They did phenomenally, although they both say that the beginning was actually a little TOO easy, that if they had it to do over, to make the end LESS difficult, they'd do more in the beginning... because by the end they felt rushed and not as ready as they'd like.
Me'self I used to run, & am on doctor's orders not to... so this is all 2nd hand. But they just had their race 3 weeks ago. :) :) :) :)
I have a friend that did this and was literally a couch potato and is now running marathons ! I started this a couple of weeks ago but due to other circumstances have missed 3 weeks so I am just going to start over. She loves it and I enjoyed the first week. Of course I felt like I was shuffling more than walking LOL ! I am planning on starting again but will wait till next week I think. I would love an accountability partner. PM me.
Yes yes yes and yes! I LOVE this program and just finished it two weeks ago after being 'exercise restricted' from my pregnancy and not having done anything for over 400 days! Prior to my pregnancy I was running 25 miles a week. I also used it a few years ago when I was getting back in shape.
It works. It gets difficult about week 3 or 4 but hang in there because it is worth it. I did the work on a treadmill so I could actually time out the intervals and control the speed at which I ran. I have heard that there are iPhone apps that will 'beep' at the intervals to let you know when to walk and when to run.
My advice: if you've never really run before, don't get overzealous and think "Oh this is easy, I'll do it everyday!". Run M/W/F and then on the off days either rest completely or cross train with walking, biking, swimming, elliptical, etc.
Running is one of the most efficient ways to melt fat through cardio activity. Additionally, you'll notice your leg muscles toning up nicely. Good luck and happy running! I'm running 3 miles comfortably and building up my 'base' in order to run a half marathon next May.
You can do it! Good luck! www.dailymile.com is a great support site for runners.
I intent on doing something like this soon, I had a friend that did it and had great results and a great time. I live in Corinth, message me if you would like.
My husband is training for his 3rd 1/2 marathon in the past 10 months. I did my first in May after not having run in almost 7-8 years. Even then, my longest distance was ~4 miles.
I'd highly encourage you to do a program, but I'd look into the different training programs available. We followed one by a local running store that specializes in running shoes, training, etc. Our podiatrist said it was too aggressive nad didn't leave enough time to prepare for the novice runner.
His recommendation is to do what's comfortable for your body, repeat until it's easy and then increase in 1/4 mile increments to put as little stress as possible on your body (especially your ankles and feet which are most prone to injuries along with knees).
Good luck! Best wishes. Set personal goals, hit them, then repeat!
Good for you!! My boss is doing this program. It is similar to other programs I have seen and used for running. For a beginner, I think this looks like a pretty good program. The key will be consistency. I am training for the Jailbreak run in September. I live in the Lewisville/Flower Mound area. Feel free to send me a message, I'd be happy to pass on any info I have or answer questions.
I so wish you were in NJ, I need some partner too.
:(
GO FOR, GOOD LUCK and let us know how it goes.
