I would like some good home made costume ideas (not scary). We are going camping back in England and they have lots of fun activites for kids and one of them is a cosutme party. A camping theme costume would be great. Or any idea that is clever but not too complicated to make would be perfect. Your help is greatly appreciated. By the way this is for a 3 year old boy. Thanks.

What can I do next?

You could do something really simple and make them "happy campers"! Have them wear smiley face shirts and put a couple on their faces and then wear their camping gear. :) Have fun!

Campfire-
Brown grass skirt-Cut short maybe tied like sticks in places.
orange or yellow shirt- with flames painted on it and maybe a sooty face.

Lantern-
Yellow clothing and a clear sack(make sure there is a neck hole and arm slits and lots of other holes. mesh might work)(we don't want suffocation hazzards)and a wide brimmed red or green hat with a foil handle.

Tree--
Cut two tree shapes out of fabric. sew them together. Cut the top off for a neck hole and make a hat out of the piece you cut off. Make it big enough so he can bend.

Good luck! C.

When my son was 3, I made him a scarecrow costume. I CANNOT sew, so while it was a little time consuming because I wanted it to be perfect, it is very easy. I simply tied little bunches of raffia in knots and then safety-pinned them to the bottom of sweat pants and the cuffs of a turtleneck. I also pinned them to the outside of the turtleneck, (so it wouldn't be scratchy against his neck. Over that, I put a flannell shirt (to cover up the pins on the shirt) and then overalls, which covered up the pins on the pants. Found a straw hat and pinned some leaves and a little bird to it and pinned a few leaves to the overalls. Painted his nose black and done. It was so cute he was in the local paper. Also, he really stood out amongst all the commercial store-bought costumes. Plus it was warm enough that he didn't need a jacket covering it at night (I don't know what the weather is like in England.) In fact, it was such a wonderful costume, I have kept it even though it no longer fits him, because I cannot bear to take it apart. Good Luck
