Does anyone know the going rate for somebody to take care of your children in your house? I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 3 month old baby and we are looking for a nanny but can't find anything on what a suitable salary would be for this service. Our toddler will be at Mother's day out for two days so I think that we would probably pay a different rate when the nanny is only taking care of the baby. Also, do you have any suggestions on where we would find a nanny? I am currently looking among friends for references but if I come up short then I'm not sure where to turn.

We pay $10 per hour for 1 child. I would say the going rate is beween 10 and 15 per hour depending on number of kids and any responsibilities beyond child care.
We have used enannysource.com a couple of times and have been pleased with the profile of candidates that post there.

we pay 12/hr. when we were interviewing, it did seem the rate was 10-15. our 12/hr doesn't do anything besides baby stuff (i.e., we have some friends who have a nanny who also does light cleaning like, the parents laundry, etc.) ours doesn't!

I worked many years as a nanny, full and part-time. When working full time with 2 children, I was usually in the home from 8 to 5 and made around $450 a week, but 1 child went to Mothers Day Out twice a week for 4 hours each day. I worked part-time for a family with 3 children all under the age of 2 and I was there from 8 to 12 only 4 hours a day, but I made $300 a week. It was hard work keeping up with 2 toddlers and a baby. I don't know if this helps at all, but I guess depending on the hours you need the nanny, and how much experience she has, that will also come into play on how much you pay. Good luck!!:)
I found a nanny thru gonannies.com. They generally run $10 to $15 per hour. Anyone can put a resume on there, so it's up to you to interview thoroughly, do background and reference checks, etc. If you go thru a service that trains them and does the background checks, it's at least $15 per hour, plus you pay a "finders fee" to the agency equal to 20% of one year's salary. Hi Lindy! I don't know what Nannys charge but I would think they would probably run quite a bit higher than an inhome daycare where they are watching up to 6 kids. I charge $150 for kiddos 1 and up. Most in the area are about the same. For babies it ranges from that up to about $220 for this area (McKinney). The cost usually doesn't include diapers, wipes, formula...thats usually what the parents are asked to bring in. Babies are usually quite a bit more because they change the number of kids you are allowed by the state to keep at any given point and providers can make more money by having more toddlers/preschoolers. I've heard a lot of people sharing Nannies to bring down the cost and still have a small number of kids watched in their own home. Another idea might be to try the local community college for some help. I know that when I was going to school (back in the day:)) a lot of the girls in the Education and Early Learning Departments were nannies. They enjoy little ones and are looking for something to put in there resumes. You may be able to find someone thats a little more resonable priced if they are a younger student and don't have the family to support yet. Just an idea, hope it helps! A.
