I have called my ortho, and have a call in to my OB... but just looking for any personal experiences here.
I have posted in the past about my shoulder pain (both shoulders)... it was/is excruciating... so bad that at one point, they diagnosed me with adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder), which means that I can barely lift my arms at all without searing pain, wakes me out of my sleep, etc. Anyhow, around 10 months ago, when I was dealing with this, I received cortisone injections in my shoulders, which helped tremendously for several months... I'm talking pain free months, which I hadn't had in quite some time. Well, the pain is back, and as if it isn't hard enough to sleep being 7 months pregnant, I am waking in agony like I have knives in my shoulders, all. night. long. It's getting old.
Not only am I terribly sleep deprived - before baby is even here - I am worried a little about how I'll be able to hold the baby and not be in agony. As I sit here, I feel like I have a knife stuck in each shoulder, and the radiating, searing pain that goes with it. Yes, they did an MRI - found nothing. They ultimately just diagnosed a problem with my shoulder joint, where the ball part rolls a bit forward in the socket, straining all the ligaments, etc., causing the pain. No real treatment, other than physical therapy (did not help at all - actually made it worse), anti-inflammatories (which I can't take right now due to pregnancy), and the injections (which helped a ton...)
So I have a call in to my docs to see if I can get another injection.
So long question short, have any of you had cortisone injections while pregnant? From what I've seen on the internet, it looks like this is safe, especially this late in pregnancy. I really hope they say it's ok. I'm getting desperate.
It's been a while but a podiatrist gave me some sort of shot in my foot when I was 8+ months pregnant. I can't remember exactly what the issue was but it was to the point where I was having trouble walking. Anyway I remember him saying he didn't give me a full dose because 'he didn't want to be delivering the baby'. Needless to say it really didn't help the situation.
I have issues with muscle spasms in my shoulder that will wake me in the night and linger for days. I have found that a cervical neck pillow keeps me from getting into whatever position it is that triggers it 90% of the time.
While your problem sounds completely different it might be worth a $12 pillow to see if you get any relief.
Good luck!!

My OB wouldn't do it, he opted for a steriod shot instead which did absolutely nothing (but helped my little mans lungs since we thought he'd come early..) it sucks, my mom has/had the same thing and you might want to ask about this neck extension thing she got.. she sat in a chair, the device hung on the door and you fill this bag with water and it pulls your neck up (sort of like an inversion table would do) it's the only thing that worked for her.. more so than physical therapy and cortisone injections. I guess you can take comfort in the fact that as soon as you deliver you can probably talk your OB into giving you one while you're in the hospital, mine said he would..

Ouch, I'm sorry you're in so much pain. Chronic pain is no joke. I have chronic pain in my right shoulder from having torn my rotator cuff, and thanks to Fibromyalgia the "pain memory" in the nerves is intense and it's also very easy to re-injure. I also have burses in there to boot.
A couple of years ago I had an epidural put into my shoulder. This was done before I had my breast reduction (which helped ease my back and radiating shoulder pain immensely). I wasn't pregnant though.
What type of specialist did you see? An Orthopedist? A Rheumatologist?

Here is a link, however not one I know is correct, and it may help to read this..
http://www.helium.com/items/1433841-are-cortisone-shots-s... Cortisone is a steroid and there are different ones for babies lungs, etc. than just in a shot for muscles, etc. I hope the OB was helpful to you. No I've not had experience with it while pregnant.
