This is going to sound silly, but can someone please tell me what I may be doing wrong?? Most of the time when I hard boil an egg, when I try to peel it, the shell sticks and I end up losing half of the "meat" because it's stuck! Do you have any tips for perfectly hard boiled eggs??? Thanks!

What can I do next?

The trick to hard boiled eggs peeling easy is start with eggs that are at least 2 weeks old. Really fresh eggs are very hard to peel. Just cover the eggs with water, bring to a boil for 10 minutes then drain. Peel the eggs under tap water while they are still hot. Good luck!

put egg(s) in pot with cold water...then bring to a boil. This works way better than putting the egg in after the water is boiling already. After it boils, bring down to a simmer for 12 min. Oh...and peel under cool running water or in a bowl of ice water...that helps you do it quicker because the shell seems to glide right off.

Like the other poster, put the eggs in the pot of water while the water is cold, then bring to a boil. My mom told me to bring it to a boil, let them boil for about 8 min then shut off the stove and let them sit for like 20 min... I know.. boiling eggs "sounds" like it should be easy. lol, - I always have problems too .... Esp easter time! Some of them always crack while they are boiling then they are no good for dyeing!

I used to have the same problem until I finally figured out that the eggs need to cool completely before the shell can come off. Boil the eggs for 10 minutes and then submerge the eggs in cold water for 5 to 10 minutes. Works like a charm!
