Corneal Ulcers

A bit of background before I get to the question...A few weeks ago I got a corneal ulcer on my eye. At first I didn't know that's what it was. I just had sever pain in my eye for a day and then discomfort for another day. I'm a contact wearer, so I went 4 days without wearing them. It felt better so I put them in. The first day was fine and then the 2nd day the pain came back. I went to my eye doctor and he told me I had many small ulcers in a circular pattern around my eye, probably caused by something on my contacts. He gave me a script and told me to go 5 days without wearing them. I did that and even went 6 days. I put in a fresh pair of contacts and the same thing happened AGAIN! This time the pain was worse and it hurt for 2 full days. This happened Fri. My eye hurt all day Fri and all day Sat. It finally felt better yesterday. However, my vision in that eye is very blurry. It's to the point where I can't even read the stop sign with my glasses on! So, finally the question...Has anyone out there had corneal ulcers? If so, how long did you have to go without wearing contacts and how long until it healed completely? I had switched brands and my eye dr ordered me my normal brand and said he would look at my eye again when I pick them up but I don't know when that will be. This blurriness is driving me nuts though!! Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

I had one about 15 years ago. I waited at least two weeks before putting my contacts back in. I wore contacts daily for another eight years after without problem. There is still a tiny bit of scar tissue, but nothing that impairs my vision. Good luck and heal well!

My daughter just found out she has a corneal ulcer. She thought she had pinkeye, but it was very painful and not gunky like pinkeye. I feel for you, because I know what pain she was in on Friday. She is better today after four days on medicine. Her doctor said she shouldn't even think about wearing her contacts for two weeks. She has to go back to see him for a final check-up before putting them back in. Maybe you didn't give it enough time.

I took medicine for 7 days and didn't wear contacts again for about 2 weeks. My doctor had me come back in and check my eye out before he let me wear my contacts again. After the 2 weeks my eye was perfectly fine. If you are having blurriness, I would go in and see my doctor again. Like Julie said, you could have some perminant vision loss if you don't get this corrected. Good luck!!

Did your eye doctor not want to see you back in a few days after starting you on the drops? I would go in to see them ASAP especially if you have noticed a significant decrease in vision. A corneal ulcer could leave scaring and if it is located centrally that could lead to a permant decrease in vision. I wouldn't wait to follow up with your doc until your contacts come in go tomorrow if you are able.
