Corneal Abrasion; Very Swollen Eyelid

My three year old daughter had an eyelash stuck in her eye Friday night & we couldn't get it out. She was very uncomfortable & her eye was quite red & angry looking. Since our pedi's office was closed (Saturday) we took her to the ER where she was diagnosed with a corneal abrasion & given antibiotic drops. We were told the swelling around her eye was just irritation & would go down & to follow up with an opthalmologist if it hadn't started looking better by Monday.

This morning she woke up & her eye was swollen almost completely shut. It just looks AWFUL. The top & bottom eyelid are both so swollen; it looks like she got punched in the eye. Naturally, we'll get her in to an opthalmologist tomorrow, but for now I'm pretty worried & would love to know if any of you all have some experience with this. In other words, anything that might calm me down a bit? ;)

Thanks, mommas!

I know this may be late, but the same exact thing happened to me a few years ago over the weekend. The ER prescribed eye drops and told me to purchase an eye patch to cover the eye and to follow up with an opthamologist on Monday . The eye patch worked great! After a 48 hrs of wearing the patch my eye felt so much better.

I would go to Walgreens and get a eyepatch. I would think that they would have one. Every time she blinks it irritates it more so a patch would help her to keep that eye closed until she gets to the doctor. Hope she is better soon.

I would recommend taking her to a theraputic optometrist...they can do anything a opthamologist can do except surgery. I think they would recommend keeping a warm cloth on her eyes to help soothe until you can get to a doctor tomorrow.
