I just made cornbread last night and I mixed 1/2 box of yellow cake mix and 1 box of Jiffy cornbread mix together. I put in 1/2 the amount of the ingredients it says to add to the yellow cake mix and I put in all of the ingredients for the cornbread. It tasted delicious and had a nice sweet cake taste to it.

I make cornbread from scratch and it's plenty sweet.

1 cup each all-purpose flour and corn meal
1/4 cup honey or maple syrup (tree sap, not maple flavored corn syrup)
5 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 stick melted butter (not margarine)
1 egg
1 cup whole milk

Bake in a cast iron skillet.

Make it from scratch; it's easy enough and boxed cornbread is so bland it's not worth the calories:

1 c flour
1 c yellow cornmeal
1/2 c sugar
3/4 tsp salt
4 tsp baking powder
1/4 c vegetable oil
1 c milk
2 eggs

Preheat oven to 400 degrees and grease an 8-inch square pan. Whisk together the dry ingredients, then add in the oil, milk and eggs and whisk until just combined. Pour into the prepared pan and bake for 15-20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean and the top is golden brown. Then take a pat of butter and glide it over the top to give it a melty, buttery finish on top.

If you like the convenience of the mix, you can mix up a few batches of the dry ingredients and store them in ziploc bags, then when you want to bake a batch, you just dump it in a bowl and add the liquid. I do this so that my older kids can mix it up and throw it in the oven for me when I'm on my way home from work or running errands. Believe me if you like sweet cornbread, once you eat this you'll never use another box, bag or recipe again!

I use this recipe all the time and have gotten compliments (from neighbors who have not known it was mine) from halloween/chili parties we have in our neighborhood. Good stuff! I make mine in a 8 x 8 dish, though.

You can add some yellow cake mix. If you look up the recipe for Famous Dave's corn bread, (it's a BBQ restaurant chain), you will find many links to it. His is a sweet cornbread and uses yellow cake mix. Or you could just try substituting cake mix for some or all of the flour.

I do not like sweetness inside the bread so much as on the outside.
If I buy pre-packaged, I prepare it like the box says, then when it is done cooking, I top it off w/real butter and a lot of sugar on top, like a sugar crusted coating. It manages to make it all sweet.
However, you sound like you like to have the taste throughout.
So add in your sugar while you are cooking, and then try that on top.
If you are really into sweetness, look into adding different sugars like brown sugar in the mix and maybe corn syrup.
Dont turn into a diabetic while doing so.
My dr. says that sugar acts like shards of glass through our veins.

We use the Krusteez Honey Cornbread mixes, they are plenty sweet on their own...or else this recipe for home-made:
1 C. yellow cornmeal
2 1/2 C. Bisquick
1/2 C. Sugar
1T. +1 tsp. baking powder
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1 1/4 C. milk
3/4 C. Butter softened ( =1 and a half sticks)

Preheat oven to 350 deg. combine dry ingredients in a large bowl, wisk them together dry, so they get mixed up well, then stir in wet ingredients and stir until just blended, do not overmix, lumps are good!
Grease 2, 8 inch round cake pans, divide batter evenly into pans. Bake 25-30 minutes. Serve warm or cool with butter and honey! YUM!

Here is my favorite sweet cornbread recipe, I ususally make it as corn muffins but you can do bread as well. A friend of mine uses corn bread mixes but she also puts in a yellow cake mix, I am not sure how much butter, milk, eggs, etc. she uses though. Maybe just follow the directions on the cake mix and the corn muffin mix and then mix them together? I don't know, I just prefer to make the recipe below.
