I think in order to be well rounded, you need both. You need to be competitive when working for something and cooperative when helping others. I think of a long time ago when we had to hunt and prepare our own meals. Competitive minds get the meat, cooperation makes the meal you know?

You need both!

I don't think this movie is playing here, but I saw the trailer and look very interesting, I will check on-line.
Oh, and I agree with Beth, we need to be both or at least to have a team where some are cooperative and others competitive.

This is a big issue to me. We seem to have developed this either/or mentality about cooperation vs competition in areas such as socialism versus capitalism. None of these are either/or issues and they should not be framed as such. (Not the OP - innocent question) We need both. We need to cooperate for many many reasons and we will compete over things no matter what Some of the original studies on the Yanomami people have been called into question. We teach individualism above all else here in the States, but I contest that life is a group project. Having more than O. coping style in your tool belt lets you choose when to compete and when to cooperate. Humans are pack animals, we generally balance the two drives to establish dominance but to maintain the pack ties.

Humans, depending on their environment/cultural/societal constructs, will vary. And if they are a communal culture or not or O. based on warfare.
And per whether said humans are in a civilized modern society or a jungle society or bordering on both, marginally.
ie: the Masai. ie: the Yanomamo, ie: us

Some cultures/societies, also compete or cooperate, with their regions animal & natural population and resources.
ie: humans. ie: Hawaiians, ie: most indigenous cultures who are not impacted by modern intrusions of influences etc.

Competition per survival or cooperation per survival?
And why?
