I don't know the hospitals in your area. I delivered with a midwife in northern NJ. If possible look for a hospital with a high level NICU. I ended up having my babies transferred to a different hospital because the other hospital NICU was better (St. Joseph's in Patterson). Being stuck at a different hospital from the baby is an unnecessary hassle if you can avoid it. But it is tricky because it isn't easy for midwives in NJ because of the high insurance rates.

I had our daughter 2 years ago at Virtua in Mt. Holly and loved it. I used Pinelands OB/GYN, which has several offices in the area. The only other Burlington Twp. hospital I know of is Lourdes, but I don't know anything about their maternity ward. Good luck!

NJ has one of the highest rate of cesareans... so I'd go and research the cesarean rate of your OB (who as surgeons go, love to operate) and of the hospital. Ask their policies on freedom of movement, are IV Fluids mandatory, pitocin drip policies, length of delivery policies (some say if you've not had the baby in 12 hours, they will operate), etc.

I'd also watch the move "Business of Being Born"
