Shoot, for under $5 a kid, you could give them each one of those big bouncy balls! Seriously. They're going to play 4 square... give them a ball. Follows the theme. ;)
Those big balls are only like $3.50 or something, right?
We are having a party for my son, who is turning 8. The plan is to have the kids play basketball and 4-square in our driveway. The cake will be a Minecraft theme. Sort of a low-key "classic" bday party. I don't want to give the kids a goody bag full of pencils or other typical knick-knack favors. I don't mind giving each kid one thing that costs around $5 or so.
I'd appreciate ideas! Thanks!!
Love the small Nerf gun idea. Even if it rains they can have a battle in the basement! Thanks everyone.

I truly hate going to birthday parties where the kids get gifts just for showing up. It's to the point they expect something for giving in all aspects of life now.
I refuse to do goodie bags or anything like that and I've had parents tell me thank you for not doing that.
Mom's really don't like them. They take away from the giving ideal. Please just consider thinking the kids verbally for coming and helping celebrate the kids birthday.
Also, it sounds like the party is going to be a lot of fun anyway, kids need time to just play and have fun. Then run over and gobble down some cake and ice cream then run off to play some more.
I hope they have a great day.
Get them all small Nerf guns and buy some extra darts. Let the activity be a Nerf war.
do they still have mad libs? those are hilarious.

At places like Target they sell these little bags with a little Minecraft character inside (on a keychain). You don't know what you are doing to get until you open it.
Friend's son turned 8 last fall and those little minecraft paper crafts were a big hit. Each kid got a "good guy" and a "bad guy" and an element (I barely know the difference, but the kids knew).
A Lego Mini Figure, gift cards for things like ice cream, bowling, mini-golf or a book.
Glow sticks.
Everyone has a use for them and the kids love them.
I don't typically do favors, but want to comment that I love BossFan's idea. Use the bottles for their drinks at the party and then they can take them home.
Sports or Minecrafdt themed water bottle would be a good option. Could even use it at the party (they'll be hot from playing ball).
Why do you need to get them anything?
EVery year we do a CD - while all the kids have some sort of device, everyone has a CD player in the car. I use my son's favorite 15 or so songs, make a cd cover (Vol. 8), and tie a Full-size Hershey bar to it. Kids actually anticipate it and can't wait to hear the mix!
Good luck - I love an old school party ...
Nerf football
Nerf guns
Baseball cap
Soft baseballs
Like the Nerf gun idea. We always give a ball, Frisbee, pool noodle, crazy carpet, bubbles ... something they use the last bit of the party. It helps me (gets them outside or in basement if weather isn't great) and they burn off the sugar from cake while we wait for parents to arrive.
have fun :)
Is there a 99 cent only store around you? They have great part favors.
mincraft water bottle or a mini basketball would be good. you can get those at the toys r us. or the party city has minecraft cups. you could put a mini waterbottle inside the cup.
We went to Five Below and got Nerf footballs for $4 . We've also given out the playground balls used for four square from there too . Have fun !
Im the same way. Poly bag of legos you might even be able to find mind craft legos. Search on ebay.
