Cool Mist Humdifier Recommendations?

Hello,

I have been purchasing humidifier after humidifer in search of the perfect one; from the very expensive to the cheapos and have been disappointed by all. I just want something that is efficient, effective, low maintenance, easy to clean, easy to use and one that doesn't require a super-expensive filter every other week. Is there such a product out there? I've heard that the no-filter humidifiers leave a huge mess. Thanks in advance for your advice!

I prefer the ultrasonic to the cool mist. Our house is cooler to begin with so to have a fan running just makes matters worse.

I do not put a lot of money into them and none of mine have ever needed a filter. I just need to clean them on a regular basis. (Ours runs 365 days a year). I have had very good luck but I do not look for any specific brand just a 'cheap' one.

I think what you are referring to is the white powder they leave behind. Yes ours does. I was told it is the minerals in the water. A friend recommended I try using distilled water to eliminate some of this mess. I have not done that as of yet but I would try it if it is a concern of yours.

I have a Relione Humidifier from Wal-Mart, $25, it does require filters but they are easy to change and only $5 a piece. I have used this one for over a year after trying many other brands before this one is by far the best in my opionion.

I use a warm mist humidifier the samll Holmes version no filter required but you have to clean it or it'll build up calcium & mineral deposits.

We have a humidifier that attaches to our furnace, and it works for the whole house. We only clean it once a year, it does not need to be filled (it taps into our cold water). Love it - love it!!! Was not expensive and my Husband installed it in about 3 hours.

In my daughter's room we have a Crane cool-mist humidifier. It's quiet and easy to refill with water. The only clean up is the usual calcium build-up. We like it and have not had problems with it. We got it for $30 if I remember correctly at Target.
